High pings when playing BF2, or any game.

So, I start BF2 and the server list shows a nice ping of 47-78 with a server. Then I join the game and at first my ping is fine at about 83. Then after about 10 seconds I get fps lag and my ping shoots up to 150-200ish and the game is laggy as hell. I can't figure out what is doing this. Any suggestions?

I have also made sure that nothing else is running to eat up bandwidth. I have scanned for viruses and spyware too. Could punkbuster be a problem?

wwhat kindof connection do u use? do other ppl share the same connection? im on a lan with other ppl and when too many of us are downloading something and our bandwith is being used up..it starts laggin

I am on a college campus network (ethernet connection). When I wasn't having this problem I noticed that when I played on the weekends my ping was lower than on weekdays because less people use the internet during this time (I guess most people are out or go home or whatever). But now, I get high pings no matter what day of the week it is.
