Clean WinXP reinstall - 1.12 still stops BF2 working!

Previously when I installed BF2 patch 1.12, it stopped BF2 from working.

I got the splash screen and then a windows error box pops up saying BF2.exe encountered a problem, would I like to send an error report?

So I tried everything I could think of or find online, and it still did not work.

Patch 1.03 worked fine, BF2 was fine until Patch 1.12

So I buy a new HDD, and install WinXP afresh.

The only things I added to the install were Nvidia drivers, service pack 2 and Zonealarm firewall.

And guess what

I get the same bloody problem

Setup is missing some files when installing off of CD maybe? Try not installing SP2 I only install the critical updates and files and have never had any problems..

i dont think it is missing any files, works fine with 1.02 and 1.03, it is just patch 1.12 that kills the game

might try your suggestion of sp1 though, thx
