Ya seems like it will work - here is a pretty good review. Wish I had a digital camera so I could try it. Says about 20 pictures should do it.

    Good find jonasnz1

To get camera position, and depth, you must place your target in the center of the mat before taking your pics...
The program is setup to key on the markings on the mat, for position placement.

There is also a manual allignment tool for setting up a target without the mat..

ah right but how does it know the position of a particular part of the target relative to the camera?

OK here is the ""long"" short version....

The mat is setup in a circular grid patern...

There is a target spot in the center..(this is where you place your item you wish to model..

Radiating off the target circle are a series of lines with special markings...

Each line of markings are different...(this allows the program to know which side of the model that is being looked at, in that particular shot.)

Also each line's markings stand for distance from center...(not unlike gps coordinates)

By using the line pattern for rotatonal position, and the distance markings to calculate camera position.
The program can now automaticly setup your mesh by taking slices from the pictures, and using the positions...(good example...ever see a cat scan?)

3Dsom does basicly the opposite...instead of building picture slices from an object, 3Dsom builds an object from picture slices....

Hope this helps you understand how it works....please, download the demo, and play with it a bit...only way to really see how it works.
