BF2 crashing system

Hi there,

Just upgraded to a 6600GT in order to play BF2.
Have installed all updates and updated derivers.
The game starts up ok, but just as it finnishes loading the map, the computer crashes and reboots.
Is my power supply to gutless perhaps?

Sys Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512mb DDR ram
Legend GeForce 6600GT 128mb
40ig HDD
80gig HDD
DVD-ROM
DVD- RW
400W PSU

Thanks for any help you can provide, am in the process of doubling the system RAM.

Hi Again people,

Have now re-installed BF2, as I missed the 1.01 patch. Also updated to latest Nvidia drivers, and replaced norton with McAffee.

Now just as BF2 finnishes optimizing shaders it crashes to blue screen, which reports either a driver fault or bios setting(shadow/cache)

After sending error report, Microsoft states its a driver issue!

Any ideas??

I thimk my mobo only has a 4x agp slot and card is 8x, Could that be the cause?

Don't know about the latter prob, but I have the same problem where BF2 just stops responding and you can't alt + tab or ctrl + alt + delete out of game and you are forced to shut off the computer completely.

Started with the 1.12 patch, never had this problem before and now it happens every other map or sometimes every map. It is quite sad as I really enjoyed playing SF. Seems to happen 80% of the time when I am throwing a grappling hook. The sound loops over and over infinitely. I am hoping for a fix within the forseeable future.

I don't know what others have done, but since the 1.12 patch gave me so much trouble, I rolled back to older Nvidia drivers. I've been running 77.72 drivers from Gigabyte (just reference, nothing special) for a week now and my computer has stopped crashing, freezing and rebooting during gameplay.

In my opinion the 81.xx series of drivers are nothing but crap.

Hey there :) Im having the same problem as you.. Though im allowed to play awhile before system crashes to blue screen, or back to desktop.. I have newest fx and sound drivers.. Dont know what else to do..

System spec are..

ASUS N78.. something.. well the one everyone has or had at some point.. mainboard..

3000 XP

1gb DDR ram..


asus 6600GT

120 gb HD..

Well.. It seems that we all have 1 thing in common.. We all have the newest drivers.. Im gonna go look for some oldies

Well the old driver I had caused me to have low fps so I am sorta stcuk in the middle.
