Crashing to desktop after 3 months of working fine

I have no idea what the problem is. I've played the game for a good three months and it never ever crashed....and now I can't even get a game loaded at all. It crashes when the maps are loading in both single and multiplayer. I've tried the usual uninstalling and reinstalling with the patches. No good. I even made sure I had all the up to date drivers. I tried changing the resolution and when I do it crashes right there, so it must be a graphics problem. I've played this game cranked up to full resolution for the longest time without any probems at all. I'm at a loss.

Pentium IV 3.4
GeForce 6800GT
Audigy 2ZS Platinum
1GB RAM
ABIT Fatal1ty motherboard

Did you removed all BF2folders after deinstal
So also the stuff in youre documents??
Make sure you install the patch after you installed bf2 and SF(if you have that expansion)

Yeah you probably need to manually uninstall bf2 completley in the registry first.

This is what I did: I completely re-installed windows as a last resort and now it works.

Weird.
