Special forces : mixed feelings about this addon

Don't get me wrong i think bf2 is one the best games i have played so far but after i bought the expansion pack SF i thought it would give me a total new gameplay in BF2 style.

But somehow i think this addon is just a extended pimp version of BF2 with a couple of new features....

I thought SF would be action based on a certain type of setting instead of just using the same formula again where you have to get the flag.

I would love to see more maps where both sides have a main objective so that both teams have a goal to work for.

Now it feels just like a extended version of BF2.

From the 8 maps i only find 2 maps coming close to a special forces theme. for example the map where you have to guard a ship.

the other 6 maps feel more like BF2 maps. Somehow i get the feeling that a couple of maps where originaly created for BF2 but got pushed in this release because EA works with sharp end dates when it comes of releasing games.

In the end i think SF does not live up to my expections which i had before i bought this expansion.

But that's my own opinion. Going back to BF2.

Thanks for clarifying what an expansion pack is. A couple new weapons, items, vehicles and maps.

Just like Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne (an expansion). A couple new heros, units and maps.

oke if you do not get the point of the post then why flame here. djeez it's really so hard to start a topic without all you kids ranting around....

what i tried to explain is that sf was set as a totaly different gameplay in the interviews, game reviews and the video footages

but in the end it's nothing more then bf2 with extra's..
i hoped it was more action based on a certain kind of objective instead of walking for flags as bf2.

I believe that what you're saying is right, and yet wrong at the same time.

For me (and I say for me, I don't want to get in to a flame-war about this)....

          The maps are better.
          The objectives are better.
          The gameplay is better.

It'll take me some time to get used to it all, but hell, it's not a bad expansion.

Actually it is BF2. It acually gears you to play ice cream (BF2:Vanilla) more anyway. Most of the new gear can not be used in SF. I was like wtf I don't get my unlocks!?! No not always. You have to be on a certain team to get them. That to me is what turns me off. I really enjoy the G36E for medic class. Yet I can't use it all the time. But if I go play in ice cream I can. LAME!

For the maps and everything else it's worth it though. Fun times!

I find it one of the most remarkably average and laziest expansions ever. 'Special Forces' implies just that, special forces. Not skins and a handfull of new weapons and 2 new grenade types.

Yes, the maps are better. To me this is the only reason why you would want to buy the expansion. And for the money, its not worth it, the free maps are of similar quality. I guess if you want to play ranked servers though you're outta luck.

How are the objectives better? Its the same gametype. To me this is the laziest part of the expansion, you'd think they'd think of something new and innovative instead of just conquest all the time.

The gameplay is marginally better. Nightvision is ok, but it doesnt really change the gameplay much. Except for killing newbies who don't know how to turn it on :) Ziplines and grappling hooks are good. Weapons I find a bit 'meh'.

I'm picking there's going to be another expansion, lets hope they can make it something worthwhile. To me Special Forces is even less inspiring than Road to Rome for the original BF42.

On the Warlord map, one of the bases (the one with all the stairs) is the exact same building as the one on sharqi. Can't remember what the base is called, but it's the heli pad building on sharqi.

its in big letters on the flag name, TV station !!!! :O
Do you really think EA would throw out all the old building models are completly re-do all the structures???

SF was meant to be an addition of BF2, with a few new things, not an entirely new game. Yes more game modes would be nice, but did anyone see anything from EA saying they were adding more modes? no, thats just a myth generated on the forums that everyone believed and are now mad that it wasn't included. SF is not splinter cell, and if it was I wouldn't be playing it. Its still the run-and-gun vehicle infested type gameplay that we all love, just geared more so to ground troops. If people would stop thinking that games will be what they think they should be,(but thats what mods are for) and accept what is official and not some rumor made up on some forums, a lot of these whiners wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Its fun, but EA needs to remove artillery.

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I never saw anything from EA to indicate they would put in features that aren't in Special Forces. However it is a lazy expansion, its essentially a map pack with a few more weapons and darkness.

My dissapointment comes not from reading forum rumours, but from having played the 2 previous Battlefield titles which had a lot more options, co-op, and a better singleplayer. I just anticipated if EA/Dice were developing BF2 that we would have received as many features as before and then some, not better graphics and physics at the cost of heaps of stripped out features that were in the previous games.

I guess its up to all the modders....

Yeah the sliding gate was a good idea, but they obv got out of making the game have any purpose. Blowing an objective or something would have been awesome and given the game teamwork.

Jeez, what kind of expansions do you guys play? Whatever they are, please point me towards them. From my experience that's all most game expansion packs are. Usually they include a lot less than SF does.

All in all, we could expect something a 'Tad' different for SF. How about a very paying objective in each map that, when achieved, gives each players 50 -100 point bonus? Like blowing the Missile or something.
                              That could be fun.
