I got the same problems, it´s probably the 1.12 patch that´s responsible for the fps drop on many people´s machines. I get twice the fps in the Demo than I get on 1.12 retail BF2 on gulf of oman.

          Re: slow performance

I've noticed a frame rate drop only when playing SF. I basically get the same Frame rate on a 32player SF server that I do on a 64 player. Lame.

I don't have this issue so there may be more to it.

              Re: slow performance

I had this problem. After trying a wide variety of drivers with not improvment, I figured it was a heat issue. My GPU was 55C, which isnt THAT bad. So if its not my GPU thats over heating, what is it? Oh yea, the CPU! Turns out the dust on the heat sink was blocking the air from my cpu. On most newer computers once the CPU hits a certain temp (75C default) it will throttle down to 50% power. So if you are throttling down, that is like running 2 instances of BF2.

I can't say for sure if this is your problem but be sure to check it out!

I was having a BF2 lag problem a while ago, I opened up my case and blew out all the dust and the problem went away imediatly. I would suggest anyone having this problem to at least rule out heat as the issue, and dont trust what the GPU says its running at, simply spend the money on the compressed air and clean the comptuer.

Might explain why I don't have the issue. I'm running an XP-90 cpu heatsink and a Zalman gpu heatsink. All really open, really big...

When you type in the renderer.Fps command, it's set up like this: 78/16 for example.

Which one is the FPS? Why are there 2 numbers?

I don't think there is any difference between multiplayer and singleplayer. I put the settings to LOW and played on both single and multiplayer. I was getting average 30-35 frames. That sucks especially when u have one high end rig. I installed FEAR multiplayer demo and ran everything to the MAX. I mean I had 8X anti-aliasing, and 16X anistropic filtering even. I was getting average 80 frames. I think my system doesnt like BF2.

The first one is frames per second, the second is milliseconds per frame (e.g. the time in ms it takes to render one frame). So both are inversly proportional, and you don´t get any real additional info from the second number.

As for the stuttering: I suggest downloading the BF2 demo and checking it out to everyone having problems. If it runs far better than your 1.12 battlefield you can be sure that it´s the patch which is causing the problem.

I have a similar problem when I used the rename bf2.exe fix and the PB_sleep 500 fix, after a few rounds I would get frames stutter/lag on low or high settings etc. I think there is amemory hole in BF2 which reaches a point after 2-3 rounds and then plays up. I find it best to play 3-5 rounds, dissconnect and then come back in. This lag shows up in the APC, for first few rounds you hit dead straight with the gun crosshair, 30-60 mins later you have to shoot in front of people to hit.

I think it is a bug, so jumping on and offline helps!

The heat issue is bad, But RAM that over heats is also a common cause of huge frame drops. Seen this alot in 3d packages. I'd see how hot the RAM is getting BF2 is one of the few games that eats ram, WE all know cooling the GPU and GPU is im ortant and ignore the ram sticks which often get little airflow and some of the little feckers run hot!

Thanks for clearing this up - I usually get max 85 to low of 30-40 with an average of about 50-60.
