    New G15 Rocks!

Firstly - I don't work for Logitech so this isn't and advert - just making people aware.

I got a G15 gaming keyboard from Logitech a couple weeks back. It's a bit pricey for a keyboard but hey, already have fast computer, 2GB ram, nice video card, 1600 dpi mouse, so I had to spend my spare cash somewhere.

At first I thought that the extra 18 macro keys would be cool but the I just figured out the best feature. Logitech release the SDK with the keyboard and modders have been madly at work. I already have FRAPS and Teamspeak add-ins for the backlit LCD that is mounted on the keyboard.

For FRAPS, your FPS and FPS history are displayed on the LCD while with Teamspeak, you can see a) when you speak, b) what channel you are in, c) who else is speaking and, d) when others connect/disconnect from the channel.

While BF2 doesn't interact with the LCD yet it appears that other games are giving you displays of weapon ammo, kills, messages and the like so it may be on the horizon.

Also, the media player controls are a lot more refined than the crap you usually get on a mutimedia keyboard.

The backlit keys are a bonus too.

If you already have the keyboard or are planning to buy it, a cool place to check out development of mods is http://g15mods.com.

    Cheerio!

I have one also. It is great. However my group uses Ventrilo, hope someone makes an app for that VOIP soon.

Do the F-keys work properly or does it have that annoying F-lock nonsense found on other Logitech 'boards?

I never like those fancy gaming keyboards, but this one will end under the X-Mas tree for me, 100% sure. I am a tournament player and such a TeamSpeak addin is beautiful. Also the other LCD applets and functions are very useful.

Some extra keys are a must for a gamer with TeamSpeak, I am always short of keys.

Ive had one for 2 weeks or so , best KB ive owned and my last one was a Salteck gaming board . dont use the driver set that comes with it though . There was an update you should use instead that prevents a few bugs like LCD clock not working with some firewalls.

I dont really find myself using the G keys much ingame . But i do use them for program shortcuts . And it is ipressive they have somthing like 52 button combo for each profile . So you can have a standered profile for like programs , and a profile for each game u play . I can see Word of Whorecrack players getting into this KB too . Allso Luv the backlit keys cuz there not that distracting . My Salteck lit the keys inbetween so even in the dark they were hard to make out . Not a problem now i can clearly see every key . Anyways well worth the money and goes nice with my Logitech G5

            Re: New G15 Rocks!

I've had one for just over a month.

Although I haven't yet utilized all of the functionality, it's definitely proven to be money well spent!

It's a bit disturbing though to glance at the LCD and see just how much of your ram the game is sucking up!

I find the integrated volume control to be VERY usefull. Maybe it's just me, but I could NEVER adjust my speaker volume properly using the speaker's volume control. It was always either too loud, or not loud enough. I'm now able to fine tune the volume using the keyboard's volume control, and get it exactly where I want it.

The only thing I really don't like about it is that if you attach the included plastic wrist rest (very basic design, but pretty comfortable), the footprint of the keyboard is HUGE!

                Re: New G15 Rocks!

In reply to the question about the F keys ... another reason I like this keyboard is that it has the traditional layout for the ins/del/home/end/pgup/pgdown keys 2 rows x 3 columns and the print screen button is off on it's lonesome.

Still trying to find out how to logistically program the G keys as a throttle for when I'm KB/Mouse flying.

                  Wireless?¿?

I love my wireless keyboard. It allows me to recline with it on my lap and the mouse on my desk. I hate wires, as they are never long enough when you need them.

It's not wireless, but it has a decent length cable and cable routing channels under the keyboard. I've always leaned away from wireless keyboards and mice anyway because (to my thinking anyway)..you get a better/quicker/more reliable connection when you're actually wired in.

Another plus is that it has 2 or 3 (can't remember right now) USB ports at the back of the keyboard, so you can direct connect your mouse, joystick...or whatever. You don't have to worry about creeping around behind your PC to connect your devices, or running over the cables that you've connected to those "handy" USB ports on the front of the PC with your chair.

too bad that BF2 doesn't support the LCD display function on the keyboard hope EA/DICE makes a patch that supports the display function.
