Re: So I bought Special Forces today...

I've been using the F2000 for almost a week now - it's definitely a nice gun. I prefer the G36E and SCAR-H myself, but you can't unlock the SCAR-H in vanilla. Tragic.

Hahaha, you so frikken funny. Actually I was trying to say why did they include the entire H&K inventory in the game? They didn't need to make many of the extra weapons H&K, nor did they need to, IMHO, overuse the G36.

While the G36C was a nice toy, adding in the Cmag equipped version, the vertical grip verson and the standard version were overkill on the same thing, especially when there are other weapons they could have used which perform just as well.

It literally loks like they modified the original G36 model into the new ones. So cheaply done infact that they forgot to put on the 3.5x or the 1.5x red dot sight that the G36K and the MG36 has IRL. This is why none have the optical sight, and THIS is why I said they look too much alike. Because they didn't do any extra work on the sight picture. Poor work IMHO.

On the subject of Red Dot sights, the SCAR and the original M4 all have the same Aimpoint on the weapon, yet you get a different sight picture. HUH? The view on the SCAR's should be similar to the view on the Spec Ops M4 that BF2 shipped with originally.
RL MA1's, LAV, and APCs are nopt sealed, as a matter of fact they have internal NBC systems inside them in case of chemical attacks.[/img]
This sentance doesn't even make sense. I think you are trying to say that tanks aren't sealed against gas attacks, but they have an internal NBC system of some sort.

Whlie this is true with the LAV-25 which uses the M8A1 ventilated face mask system, the M1A1 does infact use the 200 SCFM - CleanCooled Air system, and is infac totally sealable against NBC enviroments. I assume the T-90 has a similar system.

An no our NVGs didn't have any "autocut out"
Really? You must be using cheap shoddy ones then. Mainly because my civilian ones, and the polcie one's I've played with do, oh and so does the US Military's AN/PVS-7's.

        Pity that.

        The textures are the same
After 6 months one thinks they could have improved them a little, don't you?

        It's a good expansion
Aye, that it is. No denying it. But it could have been an AMAZING expansion. It isn't. It is riding high on the populatiry of the first one to make a quick buck.

            Licensing deal purhaps?

I mean other FPS (i.e. SoF) had fantansy guns based on the real thing to get around licencing issues...

Yet here in BF2 we have real weapons with real names. These are the intellectual property of the companies that create them and just like cars in racing games you will need to have a licensing arrangment with them to use them in your game...

They already had a deal with H&K plus a base model as you stated so it was easy I imagine... The only new thing must be a deal with FN (Fabrique Nationale of Belgium) for the F2000 and SCAR weapons. The Apache would be covered by a deal with Boeing (which would have been in place for the F-15), the Desert Raider is from Automotive Industries Ltd so that would be a new license. The Hind is manufactured by the same company as the Havok so no new license there. And the rest of the equipment is generic enough or has new specific manufacturer (the BMP-3) so could be included without license...

So only two new licenses but 8 vehicles and 11 pieces of equipment/weapons... Not too bad...

Yeah but in Vanilla (why do we call it that?) you couldn't drive it... I love that car, just think it's insane that a stationwagon would only seat 2 people... Funny thing though; sometimes I can just drive it through enemy lines, they somehow don't pay attention to it (guess it doesn't look threatening enough or something)...

True, however there seems to be an over abundance of H&K's in the game.

                MP5, G3, G36C, G36E, G36K, MG36, MP7. Thats 7. Of which one is repeated 4 times.

FN have the FN 2000. They Could also make the M16 and the M4 and the M249, as well as the SCARS so thas 6.

I don't know how many Kalashnikov's are inthe game. off the top of my head the AKs74U, the AK-47, the AK-101 and the Bizon. I'm not too clued up on who makes the RPK and the PKM, so it is possibly 5.

Then there are a bunch of Chinese weapons, and I have no idea who makes those.

There is the Pankor Jackhammer and the Striker DAO-12, as well as the Sagia 12 which are all made by different companies. Beretta make a show with the 92F. The M24 is custom made by the Marines. Based of Remington 700 rifles IIRC and the M11-87 is a modified Remington 870. Barrett is there, Norinco are there, Boeing, MI, Enfield and some others all sneak in with one.

One wonders what sorta kickback H&K gave.......

Saiga 12k is a Kal too, isn't it?

I don't mind the HK guns, but I wish we had more options to choose from. You can never have enough guns to test out.

That is true. I suppose it's just the fact that they dumped a whole whack of Wester H&K weapons on us when there are many other to also try out that annoys me. I'd like the whack of H&K's and a whack of others as well. Greedy? O yes!

As for the Sagia, well it was developed by IZHMASH,yes. But i have no idea who actually MAKES them. I was under the impression it was a civilian company, called Sagia, set up to manufacture them. I could be mistaken though.

It's a shame they shanked it from vanilla to make everyone pay for it...again. The technical is in vanilla as well minus the gun, and also a dumptruck. I don't really understand why they didn't include those, because they were essentially finished (minus the screwed up wheels of the stationwagon, I tried tons of stuff to make it roll and apparently the whole thing is actually a solid block in vanilla). Would have been a nice addition to the maps as well, not to mention they told us the game was going to include civilian vehicles I do believe...

Re: So I bought Special Forces today...

Well, after playing through SF maps fairly solidly, I've refined my opinion some.

I still fruggin hate night maps... but these night maps are actually very well designed. Devil's Perch using elevation very well. I just can't stand the eyestrain and annoynace factor of all that inky yucky black. Ah well, I seem to be dealing with it.

What's really got me now is the potential for some AWSOME squad work. Using a combonation of Zip Lines and Grappling Hooks, a squad could travel the map very quickly and come at the enemy from some unexpected directions. So far, I've only been in a couple squads that could pull anything like this off, but it was a BLAST.

I'd also like to underline again that SF really does give the anti-vehicle crowd their cup of tea. Even on maps with vehicles, they are mostly light and they defiantly do NOT dominate. How is a tank supposed to survive when the AT packers can climb to rooftops and rain their missiles of armor death rain from safely above the tank's firing arc?

I was starting to think that the teargas was just a cute little novelty until tonight too. I had the prividge of seeing an entire enemy squad get gassed while we came a-walkin through with out masks on. Broke up a stale-mate that had been dragging out for some time.

Still a few maps I haven't managed to play on. Most notably Iron Gator. I wanna try that map, but no-one seems to be running it.

So yeah... I'm thinkin my money was well spent.
