quick qs on too much overgrowth and water transperancy

alright, i'm experiencing two problems with my map.

the first is with overgrowth. i wanted to make a forest of mangroves. i used the first mangrove that shows up on the list, set the density to 100 and painted a huge area. now when i start my map up, it takes forever to verify the client, then it takes forever to join game, then finally the frame rate slows to a crawl if i even look in the direction of the overgrowth, regardless if i'm really far away. looking away, smooth frame rate comes back.

is there a better way to make a forest so that it'll run well?

on to water. i copied my water straight from wake island, but i can't find the setting to have it be transparent (like on wake). i have a lot of areas which are barely underwater, and it'd be nice if you could see the ground under.

    any ideas?

Regarding water.....does it appear non transparent when you're testing it or just in the editor?

Make sure you downloaded the lightmap samples from the EA site for objects (710 mb file containing 3 zip files).

I had a problem with my water not looking like water until I got those files and installed them. the transparency will increase as the depth of the water decreases.

Not sure on the overgrowth question....haven't messed with that too much yet.
