Help plz- SF won't load maps

I just bought it. Here's what I did:
I de-installed BF2,
reinstalled BF2,
installed SF,
and then installed the 1.12 patch.

So far, I have only been able to get into a map one time (on a local server just to test it out). Other than that, I am always getting stuck on the load up screen where it is supposedly "optimizing the shaders" blah blah. But it sticks, seriously forever (usually at 62%). Any ideas here what I can do?

Load the single player maps to optimise shaders, then go to multiplayer. Wait out the load time, it does work eventually. Whilst it's optimising, go make a cup of tea or something...
