If your having problems playing games online then your problem might be your network drivers. I'm not a computer expert by any means but this happened to me when I reformatted my hard drive.

i'm have the same problem, bf2 demo works just fine on highest settings, but when i play the real game on high settings i get around 3 fps. i already followed the bf2 optimization guide, with no effect. these are my pc spec's:

      windows XP home
      Pentium4 3GHz
      512MB ram
      Radeon 9800 XXL

you cant even run the game well at any setting with 512 MB of ram.

Minimum hardware to run the game on ***hi*** settings in the real world:

        >1.8 ghz Sempron or A64, >2.5 ghz P4

minimum of 1.5 GB RAM ( for high settings)

video card needs to be 6800nu or better for nv and X800pro or better for ati.

Some may consider these excessive, but IME thats really whats required.

The best thing you can do for your machine in regard to BF2 is RAM. 2GB will remove any ram considerations as a factor for slow performance.

Having said this, I dont really know why anyone should be running it at hi settings. There's virtually no difference anyone can see in game, if you're actually playing it, that is.

Turn all the sliders on Medium, except for view distance at 100%. Lights and Shadows to LOW. Set your screen rez to 1024 X 768. Bet all your FPS problems will go away.

70% of the time problems are caused by expecting too much from your hardware, and the rest is spy/bot/virii related.

Oh, and the reason you can play the demo fine is that it has about 30% of the overhead of the real game. This can be checked with a ctl-alt-del and checking the actual ram needs of each.
