You wont be able to controll it in game, but it will cut WAY back on system resorcess. Its called Foobar2000, do a search for it, i dont know about itunes but winamp takes up more memory than wmp

    Winamp - 1800
    wmp - 1400
AIM (not music, just part of a benchmark) 12-1400
    Foobar2000 - 3-4000

i usually have winamp running in the back, usually playing stuff like Judas Priest, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, W.A.S.P. , and stuff of that kind, sometimes i use shoutcast radio on winamp and listen to some 80's hard rock radio.

using a shotgun with heavy metal or hard rock in the background really speeds things up

Music is too much of a distraction for me so I opt not to have any.

Sometimes I think it would be fun listening to music while playing BF2, but listening to music would make listening to important sounds in the game harder (sniper fire, artillery, commands, footsteps, etc). It also would slow the game down way too much, so I prefer not to.

              winamp for the win....

i have lots of stuff on there: motley crue, guns n roses, billy idol, some ac/dc and zeppelin, sublime, greenday, thrice, 'old' linkin park (circa hybrid theory), some underground bands, pink floyd. floyd is pretty trippy when flying jets or helos and shredding it up while everybody around you dies. i also happen to have the BHD soundtrack by hans zimmer, which is AWESOME for getting you into the game lol.

I would but it doesn't help bf2 run any better. I usually listen to winamp when listening to games but its hard in bf2.
