    Overclocking

Hey guys thx for reading this heres my idea & specs
    AMD Athlon 3200+
    3.2
    1G Of ram
    Nvidia Geforece XFX 5200 256 MB <-suxors

But my idea is to overclock my cpu, i have a 3200 and it i guess can run at 3.2 GHz but it is running at 2.00 GHz, i was wondering how i can over clock it and what programs are needed and if it is even safe.

Also i tend to lag when looking at major interiors in BF2:SF and since 1.12 i'm lagging in normal bf2. I know it suxs as a graphics card and being young i gotta wait until christmas to get a new one. Any overclocking tips on it so it can atleast run the game w/o lag. Thx

That makes you think you can get it to 3.2?

These 2 guides will help you out, be sure to read them carefully.

Like I asked what makes you think you'll be able to get it to 3.2?

          Re: Overclocking

Theres no way you're going to get to 3.2GHz, not even in your dreams.

2.5 GHz would be a realistic overclock though.

Its kind of hard to screw up your overclock (and thus your PC) if you know what you're doing. If you're careful, its easy. Just overclocking the processor won't help you though. Your videocard sucks and its holding you back. I recommend you get atleast a GeForce 6600GT come Christmas. Until then, don't expect to get anything more out of your PC, because like I said, your videocard is literally holding you back.

          Imagine it this way;

          Athlon 64 3200+ = level 7
          1GB RAM = level 6
          GeForce FX 5200 = lvl 3

Overall, you're stuck at level three for ALL your hardware. Overclocking your CPU won't help.

            Re: Overclocking

yes the 3200 does not mean 3200MHZ. A64 at 2.4GHZ can crush a P4 at 3.8mhz but some people do not realize that so they just buy anything that has a higher frequency. To make it easier AMD named their CPUs so you would be able to compare it to P4s. So A64 3200 at 2GHZ is about equal to P4 at 3.2GHZ.

As for the vid card, wasnt a 5700 the min vid card you can play this game with? Definitely get a new one.

Now to overclocking, yes if you screw up or you get bad components you may fry your hardware. There is no warranty on stuff that burned during overclocking but then again they may never figure that out even after you do overclock.

Yea, but you can play it with a FX 5200 also. I've played it and was actually able to set the graphics to medium, but with crappy framerates. Its 20fps on flat bottom settings.

                Re: Overclocking

I OC'd my P4 to have a 1Ghz FSB and the performance jump is amazing, I wish Intel would crank their FSB it would help their processors so much.
