I did contact EA support after trying to burn a copy with ALL the programs I have to no avail. There is a NO_CD patch but does not work with 1.03 or 1.12. They said if my disk gets scratched and I need a new one it is $13.00 from EA. You CAN use Daemon tools and make a virtual drive to launch the game, but that won't help him if his disk is scratched and he can't install the game.

Hmm. This is interesting as I had no luck using a virtual drive. Granted I was using Alcohol120%, not Daemon Tools but still...

Once I install from the CD's I always prefer to run from a disc image and virtual drive, if for no other reason than it's a lot more convenient than digging into the game drawer and swapping discs every time I change games.

But I couldn't get BF2 to launch. After the initial BF2 splash shows, it always popped up a message that a virtual drive was detected, and BF2 would not launch. I don't recall the exact wording, but that was the gist of it.

Interestingly, even launching BF2 with the physical CD in the drive, if I had a virtual drive "installed" at all, but not even in use, BF2 would not launch. To play BF2 I always had to "uninstall" the virtual drive before launching BF2.exe.

Was I missing something, or is this a quirk of Alcohol virtual drives which doesn't occur using Daemon?
