HELP! Please LOCK - UPS! ?

Up until about a month ago I had my BF2 running smooth as silk - all those freeze ups etc. that plauged me way back when were history. Well History is repeating itself: I had to rebuild my Computer so I now have a "fresh" install of everything including Patched up Original BF2. then bought and installed BF2 SF, installed, then Patch 1.2. BUT it does not matter which I choose to play the same thing happens everytime - - - within maybe 5 minutes or so, it just freezes up - so you cannot use the mouse or anything; CTRL/ALT/DELETE does nothing; ESC = Nothing. Do a re-boot and try again - but same-O, same-O.
Can someone PLEASE give me a clue maybe of what to do??

I was so looking forward to getting back into this game BUT this is such a HASSLE after all of this - I am honestly thinking about selling BOTH and maybe getting COD2 or something that is NOT so BUGGY.

Need to ADD a bit more info that might help someone to help me - - - I have read here on the forum about others with similar problems and tried what they said caused it, BUT, in my case it did no good, because they said went they went to in game CONTROLS, they were blank, so they had to choose to RESET to Default settings in Contols then re=configure. My Settings in Controls are ALL there - they have NOT been erased.
I am wondering if it is Sound Card related, because in this new computer I have installed an Audigy 2 ZS Soundcard - in my old puter I had the Soundstorm built into a chip. So before the Lock Up, the music etc. is playing along fine - then when it freezes up the music stops and there is a STRANGE noise coming from the speakers and my Mic is screeching and then the last time my Sub started kicking out a low vibration sound - before I shut it down. I went in and shut off EAX - but it still did it - I have sound now set at Hardware and High, with EAX OFF.
Any ideas/solutions appreciated - hate to have to sell this game - I loved playing it!

Clearing the cache did wonders for me.

      I went to
      C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

      and deleted everything.

      No more freezing after that.

Kepper - THANKS for trying to help, GLAD that worked for you. This is kind of WEIRD (maybe) because I believe when I had BF2 installed before that the File you point me to was in Cocuments and Settings........BUT I find it NOt there but in the "My Documents" Folder. Inside it are 4 Files, namely, dmp, mods, Logo Cache, and Profiles. I did not find exactly the file you pointed me to BUT did go into the "mods" file and delete the "cache" within it and then tried the game - - - the game had NO Sound then and it LOCKED up fairly quick too.

I went to EA's On Line Helps and tried some of them too - like turning down Sound to Basic Acceleration and turning off ZoneAlarm etc. Nothing is working so unless someone sends me a "miracle" cure...............I hate never be able to play this GREAT game again.........but will put it up for sale on Craigslist and use the $ for COD2 or?????

Double check all your settings...SF doesn't keep your old settings...or at least mine didn't. I'd double check that first. Then if all is fine...try turning your sound card to low and run it as software.

Lastly, please say you're not running an anti-virus prog in the background. Your computer specs would help too.

Re: HELP! Please LOCK - UPS! ?

THANKS Synergy - tried some of your tips but RATS - to NO avail. Think that I might try one last time - a RE-INSTALL. This last new install that I did I did not know that apparently the new 1.2 Patch includes the 2 previous patches that were already out for BF2 - - - so I had found a copy of the 1.03 Patch that I installed to BF2 - then I installed BF2 SF and then Patch 1.2.

This time, correct me if I am wrong, I plan to uninstall ALL, de-frag, install BF2, then BF2-SF, then 1.2 Patch. then hope/pray for better results than I have gotten with this install.

                  PROBLEM SOLVED!
Thought I'd better come back and share what my problem was for others that might experience same thing. Turns out that this game and my Guild Wars BOTH (reacted the same) did NOT like my OC on my CPU. Even though it was running MUCH cooler than my previous system with same OC and MemTest ran without error...............I rolled my CPU back to STOCK, which is 1.8GHz and NO more Freeze Ups.

Nice to know you got it fixed.
Remember stable (and standard) temps vary wildly between processors, my old athlon XP used to run at almost 90C, whereas my old P4 used to run at about 30-35C. Always memtest after O/C too :)
