Will more RAM improve my graphic settings?

My specs are shown below, I was wondering if upgrading to a GIG of ram would enable me to get higher performance from my graphics.

atm I am on the BF2 demo, I can run stuff mostly on high and medium :
    Terrain: Low
    Effects: High
    Geometry: Medium
    Texture: High
    Lighting: Low
    AA: Off
    Texture Filtering: High

I'm wondering whether having a gig of ram will enable me to get the Terrain up to medium or high?

I'll be upgrading to like an X800 256 soon sometime after crimbo, but for the time being I just hope that the extra 512 RAM will improve my terrain settings.

Taking above 1 meg to 1.5 or 2 g will help some. However combined with a video card will be your best bet. Buy the way Best Buy has x700 for $99 bucks this week and X800 for $205.00

One more thing, what kind of ram are your using... I assume DDR333 or DDR400 if your processor id P4 3.2???

you wont see much until you get that x800 other than faster loading times
and maybe less stuttering if your getting some on that setting

I should hopefully be getting my 512 RAM by end of the week, so hopefully will see a bit of a difference.

I'm english so £102 for an X800 256 is very cheap

I'm saving up for an Xbox 360 but seen as tho we might not be getting any over here till Easter I may spend the money on the X800

Definitely get a new video card, but more RAM will help you greatly. And while it's not much of a boost, try to get matching pairs for dual channel (if your motherboard supports it). I went from 768Mb of PC2700 (brought over from old machine) to 2048 of PC3200 in dual channel config, and I noticed good changes in load times, transitioning, and was able to bump the quality up as well. I don't have the greatest machine in the world, but it plays BF2 extremely well.

On a general note, RAM can never increase your graphics settings. They can, however, allow you to play more smoothly at your chosen graphic settings, provided ofcourse, that your video card is up to the challenge.

This is a point of great contention among forum members, but it has been my experience that inorder to play on high textures, you will need atleast 1.5 GB of memory to keep the game in local memory, and avoid those painfully slow accesses to the page file - which is one of the reasons for stuttering. Now if you are playing on medium, the game should run fine on 1 GB. Basically, the textures setting is what consumes the greatest amount of memory, should you choose to bump it up to the highest level.

                  Hope this helps. :)

Yeah helped tremendously, apart from the fact that when I go on to the terrain level, its set to low but the medium and high are in red lettering. So hopefully when I get my 1gig ram and the full game instead of the demo it should allow me to choose medium.

Yeah, I guess they didnt pack in the best textures, geometry, etc.. as incentive to purchase the actual game.

It's a great game, when you get it to run properly...:p

512 mb ram is really not a lot - I run my rig with 2 gig. Loads into the game and can actually capture a flag before enemy even comes into the map sometimes. And ofcourse I get to choose what vehicle i want. If I want the helicopter, theres noone else in line for it. :)

And a better graphics card will boost your framerates and so also your killrates

                        X700 :
                        PCI Express
                        AGP
