BF2 does not work after 1.12, same with SF

tried the fix of creating a new admin account which was mentioned here somewhere,
still does not work

I install BF2, then without rebooting I install SF, and that patches automatically to 1.1 before installing. At this stage neither game works (BF2 worked before installing SF with the 1.1 patch). And then patching 1.12 makes no difference

Basically I start either game and the BF2 splash comes up goes away and then I get the windows error message asking to send an error report.

I have installed and uninstalled, tried using my primary hdd and my secondary hdd, cleared the registry manually etc and NOTHING works.

I have tried numerous permutations (e.g. install BF2, reboot, start BF2 and retrieve my login, install SF and then it all stops working)

Well done EA, you released an expansion pack that is screwed up.

I'm guessing it is the 1.1 patch that automatically starts when I install SF, anyway of stopping that?

So fed up, must have spent about 8 or 9 hours on this.

Anyone got any ideas?

Would it be worth trying to swap my DVD copy for a new copy at the shop?

Install BF2 from CD/DVD. Update to v1.03.

Install SF from CD/DVD. Update to v1.12.

I installed the latest nvidia display driver, 81.something

didn't do the sound drivers as I know they are up to date (did them a few weeks ago)

oh well, it is not the sf expansion

it is the 1.12 patch (and the 1.10 patch that autoinstalls with SF)

the game works fine with patch 1.03, but the later patches completely nerf the game for me

bloody annoying, what the hell are EA doing?

This is almost, probably, perhaps the last EA game I'll ever buy

What gets me is that BF2 was great fun, played it 90+ hours, which in my book makes it worth £25

but EA have a knack of releasing patches that cause entirely new problems, sometimes really seriously ones, as in this case.

So annoying.

Perhaps a hotfix will come out, but with EA this i v unlikely (going on past performance with BFV and BF2)
