Playing BF2:SF Laptop started Smoking

I have a Alienware 7700 Notebook with a Geforce 6800 Ultra... Had it since March. Played a LOT of games including BF2. After 30 mins of playing BF2:SF my Laptop shutdown (in the middle of a game) and I heard a sizzling sound from my laptop. Turn it over and saw smoke coming out of one of the holes for the airintake. 100% system failure.

I just mailed it back to Alienware to see if they are going to fix it. They better. Its still under warrenty.

I play BF2 at maximum settings. Never really had a problem. Tried the samething with SF. And my laptop smoked !! This sucks....

Dude, glad the laptop wasn't on your lap when it started smoking...that would've been a REAL tragedy.

I broke my dad's laptop when it was lying on a blanket on the floor... it was really sensitive to overheating due to bad circulation

That's why I never try gaming on laptops...they never have proper cooling.

get a laptop cooler to set it on while gaming. it is a little stand with fans to either blow cool air on, or suck hot air away. you can find them at your local hardware store, shouldn't be more than 25$.

The problem with the Alienware systems is that they use a Pentium 4 processor. They run extremely hot and if you couple that with the gpu it's just a bad combo. Now my laptop which you can see in my sig runs cool and quiet b/c it has a Pentium M chip. Btw, my 3dMark2005 score is 5216 pts.

They should take care of you.
I got an aleinware tower with a defective mother board. I shiped it back and when they returned it to me it came up "missing" in the military postal service. It took a good nine months for military mail to admit it was gone. I was insanely angry at both alienware and MPS. But then alienware contacted me and gave me a new rig with updated hardware to my original price plus $2,000 of credit for upgrades of my chioce for my troubles.

I'm kinda glad it worked out that way

Wow thats pretty cool, I should look into getting Alienware..
Edit:Scratch that I just looked at their prices. It seems their case alone costs around 300 dollars.

Yea wasn't cheap. Thats where the insanely angry part came in:laugh: .

My only complaint now is that I got mine just before PCI express took over. Everything on this PC should be upgradeable for years but since i'm stuck with AGP I can't even so much as upgrade my vid card. grrr.
