How do you use SF guns on core BF2 maps?

I don't think you can. The new unlocks were for SF specific classes.

I only have BF2 and I have the BF2 unlocks as well as the SF unlocks (spec ops and assault). A friend that owns SF logged in using my account and unlocked them for me. SO now when I select assault or spec ops I get to choose from 2 different unlocks.
Im not sure if this is an "exploit"?
EA hasnt really explained the grand design of how these games come together.
