    Windows XP upgrade??? help :)

Hey people today I got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837116196 it's Win XP pro but it says upgrade it says I need another windows on my HDD or CD.I have windows xp but it's not activated and I can't thats why I got that upgrade but will it work? will the the 30 day activation go away? Do I need to install Win XP home again then install Win XP pro "upgrade"?I got this for free :) and I don't want to open in if it wont work , so I could sell it  and buy Win xp retail or OEM.

Sell that and get the full oem version, it should save you some money.

No, whether you install Windows Home or Pro as full versions or as upgrades you will at one point have to activate your copy.

Ok my friend here is what you need to do.

            1. You need a full verion disk from a previous OS. WIN 98SE, ME, 2000.

It is a very bad idea to upgrade your OS on top of a previous OS. That said see step two.

            2. Insert your XP PRO Upgrade disk in your cd drive and reboot your system. (You will need to either set your bios to boot from cd or some bios will ask you to press spacebar to boot from cdrom)

            3. Start the install. When it asks for a licensed OS product. Remove the XP cd and insert the other OS disk (Like 2000 PRO)

Let its do its thing and then re-insert XP PRO and finish the OS build. Dont forget to wipe the drive and start fresh when it asks you.

Double check the matrix link below for previous OS to new OS compatibility.

            http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...ng/matrix.mspx

WIN 2000 PRO can go to XP PRO
WIN 98SE can go to XP PRO
WIN ME can go to XP PRO
