Night Vision > Awkward?

Does anyone else feel that the night vision is rather awkward? I just can’t seem to get use to it and when I play the night maps I seems disoriented in them. I am enjoying the Night Vision I am just feeling really weird about them.

Re: Night Vision > Awkward?

I see some people saying that, my only question is how many other games have you played with it? or other vision modes period. it seems fine to me. and I've dealt with more tedius vision modes. AVP comes to mind, preds had 4 vision modes total, real, human, pred, alien. aliens, real with smello vision, and night (black and white, with white being dark, dark being light). and humans had normal, night and a head lamp, plus a motion tracker, like our mini map, except it's useless against a alien that may spring at you (tearing your head clean off). I think playing that and having to remember all the different ways you MOVE, stay hidden (humans didn't really hide though, they were the prey usually with the fire power to hold off attacks), and detect your enemy makes 1 night vision mode easy.

There's also ghost recon which was the first game for me with it, it's less harsh (it dealt better with light areas but could still be blinded looking into light/fire) the SFs version of it, but they said they did that for balance so people in light areas would be almost invisible.

I think the only thing annoying with this night vision is the defualt key, it is something you need to flick on and off. 8 dosen't cut it. I've had it set to V since ghost recon so for me thats where it went right away, and I've had no prob with it. plus now with mouse buttons setting it to one of those is a good option, I'm just used to V.

Thank you for responding. I have never played another game with Night Vision so i have nothing to compare it to. Though i feel rather awkward anyhow and i dont know why. Perhaps its something to get use to it.

It started out a bit awkward for me as well. You get totally lost, don't know where to go, and you get sniped by people you don't see.
A few tips I can give you:
- Change the key for nightvision. The default key is 7, but change it into a key that's closer to your WASD / arrows keys, so it's easier to reach. It's better if you can just quickly turn your nightvision on and off again (or vice versa of course).
- Move in the shades. Engage Sam Fisher mode so to say. If you're in the dark people will pass you by without noticing you 90% of the time. And your nightvision is a lot clearer if you're in a dark spot. Try to avoid looking at bright lights, or if you do, switch off nightvision temporarily.
- If you're in a bright lit area, try to scan the dark spots with nightvision. If there's a lot of ambient light it can help to turn on the iron sights so you can focus on the area you're scanning. If you're in a squad, have someone (preferably the squad leader since he's a mobile spawning point) in a dark spot to overlooking the flag.
- Try and memorize the maps, esp. the choke- and camp-points. I know: it's hard to get to know a map if you can't see a lot, but the effort pays of. It's easier to spot enemies if you know where to look.

Sharemaker, Thank you for the tips. I hope i can use them as i am really enjoying the game its just gettin past the awkwardness of the night vision.

How do you change the defaults keys?

I really like the map with the sub, which i wish i could see in daylight!

Splinter Cell games. <3 They did an awesome job, SF doesn't really do it as well, but it's great. In vehicles I always zoom out once, especially on the RIB when driving and on the jet ski as you gain all that peripherial vision you lose usually with NV on.

It sucks balls. And I hate how there is a rim around the edge which gives you even LESS vision. **** sake.

You guys are weird it works fine for me. Real night vision doesnt give you full view Im sure of that...

I have it keyed to a side button on my mouse and it works like a charm. I like night vision.

Well...um, yeah. I think it is a balancing issue, abeit a minor one. You can see in the dark but your field of vision is cut down, just like in real life. It can be somewhat annoying, but...um, I probably wouldn't use your exact terms to describe it...

Re: Night Vision > Awkward?

Being an 'experienced' (the pc term for old) gamer, I've used a ton of night vision goggles in-game, with various FPS's.

IMO - BF2 falls short with the night vision. Its ok, but not what I'd expect from this game. In fact, as a general rule, night vision as of late hasn't been very good.

The best night vision I ever used was Ghost Recon. You could spot enemies quite some distance away. Rainbow6 had good nv as well.... I find myself not using it in SF very often...

personally, I think most of the maps on the exp. pack are junk.
especially the night maps.. the night vision is cool and all, but
I find myself running right into enemies all the time both of us
scrambling to turn it off quickly to kill the other..

I find it only works when indoors and dark. When I use it outside thats when it gets akward. Usually because of the outside night lights on the side of the buildings.

IMO the NV is the most booring feature in the game

*p!ssing off to go play Ghost Town and Warlord *
