Getting booted from my own LAN. Both game and server are 1.12. No mods installed.

I know this has been talked about, but I honestly tried to find the forum/s and none of the ones that were similiar to my problem gave a solution. I'm pretty sure I saw the thread yesterday but I wasn't having the problem then and didn't give it much thought.

So I appologize if this could have been answered by research but I honestly have looked for a good 2 hours before I made this post, because I'm pretty sure someones going to flame me now.

My problem: BF2 and Special Forces work. I installed the 1.12 patch after installing Special Forces (and have done so several times since). BF2 reads as version 1.1.2554-356 as does my version of BF2ServerLauncher. I downloaded the 1.12 server version and am downloading it again from another location, even though I know that I have the correct version.

I have no mods other than BF2 and Xpac. I used to have other mods but I haven't reinstalled them since I uninstalled BF2 and Special forces and reinstalled BF2 and Special Forces.

No mods. Same versions. Just trying to set up a lan. But I keep getting booted with the following message:

"This server only allows players with unmodified content to join. Revert your version of Battlefield 2 to the current official version to join."

Like I said, I did a fairly extensive search on TotalBF2 and Google before posting here, but all the matches were out of date or posted by people who HAD installed other mods and thus ended the search for a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting. Now that I created a multiplayer online account, Special Forces gives me a popup once I'm signed into the game that I have to update my patch. It pops up each time. I'm showing the right version in the upper right hand corner, and I've installed the patch half a dozen times now, but I guess I'll try that particular link and see what it does before I try a full reinstallation.

Re: Getting booted from my own LAN. Both game and server are 1.12. No mods installed.

After uninstalling everything BF2 related, I was surprised at the number of registry hits that showed up when I searched for the world "battlefield". There WAS a number of bot changer and "nights" mod hits that showed up. So perhaps that was partly to blame. I'm fairly new to registry editing so I'm not sure if deleting every bf2 registry (instead of say, changing the values to 0) was the right thing to do but I did create a restore point just in case, plus I really don't care if I end up having to reformat Windows since I do it every couple of weeks lately (lots of experimenting plus had a drive died and having a replacement shipped out).

If it turns out that those registry entries (the other mods that I uninstalled before doing a fresh BF2/SF) were the culprits... then how exactly can we enjoy these other mods? The only place these signs were showing up was in the registry, and even if I do a duel install, those same registry keys are going to show up. But I'll do another thread about that once I've solved this problem (if there isn't one already asking that question).

Well people are LOOKING at this thread, just not posting. Maybe it's better that way. Someone might suggest something that would cause a "modified content" error and I'd have to start all over. I guess for the sake of continuity I'll post what I've done so far, which has taken about two hours:

        Uninstalled BF2
        Uninstalled SF
        Uninstalled Server 1.12
        Restarted
        Created Restore Point
RegEdit removed all references to "battlefield 2"
RegEdit removed all references to "ServerLauncher"
RegEdit removed all references to prior mods: BF2SP64 and Night
        Restarted
Ran AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and The Cleaner
        Found one item labled "virus"
It was the BF2SP64 registry key in the recycle bin
        Virus removed
        Restarted
        Peformed Disck Cleanup
Defragged both partitions of main drive
        Restarted
Deleted some programs and cleaned up d: drive in prep for patch
        Closed page file
        Defragged
        Restarted
Created new and smaller page file
-- edit-- (this is where I'm at right now)--edit--

Re: Getting booted from my own LAN. Both game and server are 1.12. No mods installed.

          Installed BF2
          Restarted
          Installed SF
          Restarted
          Installed Client 1.12
          Restarted
          Installed Server 1.12
          Restarted
Optimized shaders in BF2 and SF (although there was no optimization inside SF until I went into a night time map).
Closed out both games and finally tried the Server.
For some reason, the option for enabling PunkBuster is there but I can't enable/disable it. It's stuck on "Disabled".
          I try to connect
          SUCCESS.
Played around a little (my first time seeing 3 multi-only maps on BF2 and 2 on SF).
          Closed out
          Closed page file
          Deleted both optimization caches
          Restarted
          Defragged
          Created new page file
          Restarted
Framerates after reboot, however consider this thread closed (but kept open in case anyone else wants to see what I did).

          ____________

Overall, a very redundant and exhaustive fix. It took about 4 hours including patching, optimization, and several defrags. Some people will say that that many defrags is completely unneccissary but a single defrag would have taken just about as long as the combined minis. You can never defrag too much, and it's better to defrag after every big change then to try and clean up a horribly fragged drive (and all of this uninstalling, installing, and patching does a great job of fragging everything up.)

After all I've done to play special forces, I'm taking a break and pulling back to 1280x1024, all high, and 4xAA. I've got 40-60fps while running Battlefield Recorder and it looks okay so whatever. At least everything works now. Toodles

Is your processor a dual core? Just curious.
I have to go in and do a total uninstall, and reinstall. I read that a hotfix is due out fri for 1.12
Still this is a HUGE pain in the ass to play online.
Do I really want to go and attempt to put SF on or find a new and better multiplayer game...?

Did your labors pay off well? (Do you have good gaming w/no headaches?)
I have read that players get good play with noticible degradation and increase in glitches after X amount of time

I don't know. While I'm doing all of this, I keep telling myself that it's all a learning experience because I want to learn as much about computers and optimization as possible so that I can change into a career that I actually enjoy. To be honest, I haven't been studying for too long, but it gets a little depressing when after all I've done; I still can't play any of the latest games on all high for longer than a few rounds. I wouldn't mind so much if I actually had a subpar computer or didn't understand how important optimization was (defragging, scanning for viruses/worms/adware/spyware/malware/ etc).
