i recently was forced to get a new hard drive for my computer, is it possible to keep my existing acaoount or while i have to start over?

You can keep your existing account. There is an option to retrieve an existing account on a log-in screen. You'll need to redo your options (binds, graphics etc), but your stats will remain.
