    9800 upgraded to 6800GT HELP!

i had a 9800 running at 4xAgp on an Asus mobo, 2.6mhz 266FSB w/1.5gb Ram. at low everything 90% View distance I could get 50-80 fps.

    I now have a gigabyte (same CPU) 2.6mhz @ 266fsb, (same ram) 1.5gb
and a BFG 6800GT, at 8xAgp, I can get maybe 40fps tops if I have 50 view distance, this is about half the performance of the lessor card and mobo.

specs, 3 IDE HDD's, Audigy2 ZS w/OpenAL betas, Mobo Drivers, Vid, Sound are all the latest drivers... 530W Psu (12v shows as 11.85 always!? 3v rail shows as 2.9??) <--could it be this?

I've searched the boards for 6800 and I get people just bragging about how they're 6800GT does 1280X1024 4xAA everything on high, I don't know if they're lying or what but I can't even get close to that.

I'm not new to PC games, i usually know what I'm doing, but right now I feel pretty helpless...... thanks in advance for help

Re: 9800 upgraded to 6800GT HELP!

my CPU is Intel P4 2.2mhz@2.6mhz no OC.. But the thing is that this didn't change, its the same CPU as before, plopped onto the new mobo with some silver love. (new mobo supports 800FSB but i need new chip and perhaps ram, ram is 2700 i think, maybe a 2300 and 2700 1gb.. both run on single channel at 133 i believe?

Ram is the same too.. The thing that makes me worry is the 12v rail on my PSU shows 11.85v or around there, same with another rail, i forget the exact voltage maybe the 3 or the 6? but they are just under what they should be.. could .2v really make a difference?

Thanks for the speedy reply too =)

Re: 9800 upgraded to 6800GT HELP!

I have a 6800gt (specs in my sig) and have found that the following are the best setting for this card. I am refering to driver settings in the properties of your display.
        AA > Application Controlled
        AF > Application Controlled
        Image Settings > High Performance
        Vertical Sync > Off
The rest of the setting are set a driver defaults.
The ingame video settings are as follows.
        Res >1152x864
        AA > 4x
Then everything on high except dynamic light and shadows...both of those turned off.
        I average 60-80 fps

6800 runs every game faster then 9800pro if not twice as fast.. runs BF2 twice as SLOW..

I give up.. i hate this

The cpu will make a huge difference!! Im talking the difference of night and day. Right now your bottleneck is the CPU and RAM if both are only 266Mhz. Your mobo supports an 800Mhz fsb, when money permits you have to upgrade to RAM that is all the same speed 3200 (400Mhz) and a CPU that is 800Mhz on the fsb. Previous to my current build I had an AMD 1.9Ghz with a 333fsb and ram 3200 (400Mhz) and a 5900xt video card and couldnt get more than 40 fps on medium settings.

Re: 9800 upgraded to 6800GT HELP!

                FIXED!!!!!

The problem was not my video card, it was my sound card!!
BF2 has really crappy sound code and drivers =)

I have an Audigy 2 ZS, what I did was got the new OpenAL32.dll.. I took
that and copied it from my system32 to bf2 directory, backed up Bf2openAL.dll and renamed the new OpenAL to BF2OpenAL.dll..

Bf2 now runs at high everything 90% view distance 40+ fps.. =) YAY
this is even when I drive a jeep into a huge battle, it doesn't go below 30.. I'm going to try to turn stuff down see if I can't get 60+

                yay i win a b0ng rip!
