awesome models - super high poly some of them but awesome stuff

note - i really like the ultra fine details on some of those weapons - however i would use normal mapping for tht stuff

          Re: showcase your stuff here

          A) Wasn't worried about the poly count on a lot of them, made them more for fun, not to place into game.

          B) Don't know how to use normal mapping...thought that was for skinning...

As the guy said... he was doing them just for fun...not for use in a game. In which case of course normal mapping would allow him to bring down the polycount for those 'fine details'.

As the thread states- 'showcase your stuff here'...NOT 'post here for personal comments by Jimbob'    -LMAO!

I posted this thread as an open forum to show your stuff and have people rate comment etc i make my comments based on the fact we are posting in the BF2 MODDING FORUM so i naturally assumed we would be posting stuff we had worked on for BF2 or bf2 related material. whats the point of showing your stuff if no one is meant to comment on it? defeats the definition of the word FORUM.

if you are still uptight about my "opinion" of your preferences in rendering so be it - but dont go flaming me cause you cant put your money where your mouth is. feel free to comment on my modelling or rendering - but leave your personal attacks and your giggling for the schoolyard with all the other kids... i could sit here and openly flame but i am going to take the highground...

spawndemon - i was in no way criticising your work - merely commenting on how they would be adapted to be put ingame. you are absolutely right - normal mapping is for skinning - in bf2 i believe its strategic use is as good as modelling xtra detail but meh - u know what i mean. as i said - awesome work
dude... someday i hope to achieve those results

                  Re: showcase your stuff here

Hahahaha- Who was flaming- wasn't meant as such..just a comment that most ppl just post models they've made- not necessarily with the aim of being put into the game, but maybe as a forum for those in the modding community to take in and nurture such talent so that the community can get some interesting models into forthcoming mods and thus benefit the rest of the community...ergo a showcase rather than a thread for posting ctiticism. Indeed, some ppl might be put off posting because they don't like negative feedback- and that would be a shame. As for my shading preferences...I have thick skin dude and I felt it was a fair comment- flat shading is just sooo common in the renders presented. It's nice to see skinned models, but I know how long it takes- not everyone enjoys doing it. I just happen to fancy a quick fix of a toon pass to show how the final model will look- Just brings a bit of colour to the table.

Just to show that I can do it differently...

Here's my very first weapon model I made- a 50Cal beefed up AK...: 1477 Polygons

Body, barrel, stock, sight, grip and forend- all from one cylinder.
Moving parts, cocking handle, trigger and mag release from 4 cubes.

Wouldn't look out of place in Quake 4!

I went back and scrubbed all the shading and applied a fresh coat of Lambert just for you:

Incidentally- I've had 2 offers to join MOD teams to produce models so far... I hope that those with better skills than me have similar interest.

                        Re: showcase your stuff here

Now now you guys, let's not turn this into a big deal. No personal attacks please either way.

Jimbob - Yea I understand you weren't bashing my work so no worries man, criticism is what makes a modeler get better. I apprecaite the comments though, haven't had much time to learn anything other than modeling so I haven't got into normal mapping and skinning yet. Someday I'd like to learn how to skin my gun models though. And yes, modding takes lots of patience and time

Turtle - Not a bad first weapon model but I'd say continue to work at it and throw in some more detail. The best looking models always have good detail. Yea in games some stuff that could've been modeled is skin to save poly's which is fine, but you want to use as much detail in the actually modeling part as possible.

Raslin - Hey man, haven't seen you around since FPSC days. I post mod news here so I check the Red Crucible site quite often as well as the other mod sites. Glad to hear about a news post going up for you guys after two months of no news. :)

I just finished redoing my portfolio site and would appreciate a look, about 95% game related content

Lots of models, some maps, some 'other' content.

Yeah, we've just been really hard at work internally... GI_Joejk wanted to make sure we could show the community something really great, some unique stuff from our mod, and we didn't want to just throw out a few small things as filler. Thats not what RC is about

We aren't too worried about spamming news, our soon to come demo will show everybody our mod much more than any screenshots of models...
