    Sick of BF2/BF2:SF

    [rant]

So, I bought SF 2 days ago, got home, installed it, got numerous "Patching Failed" messages after several tries. Tried a full reinstall of BF2, (which used to work fine before SF was installed) and now even vanilla BF2 doesnt work.

On approx. my 7-8th full reinstall (last night) it worked, but CTD'd during map loads when it reached 62%.

On 9th fresh install, after creating a new and exclusive partition on my HD for BF2, it worked.

Woke up today, and guess what?! SF and vanilla BF2 both CTD about 5-10 seconds into map load! Yay !

For some ****ed up reason, I have to reinstall the 1.21 patch every time I want to play, and then, it has to optimize shaders which takes an age, PLUS I can only play 1 map as it ALWAYS crashes about 5-10 seconds into loading the next map.

This game is so universally incompatible its untrue.

    Any ideas for a fix?

        I know.

The very short time I have been able to play (2 rounds or so), its been ace fun !

Why oh why do they have to be such good fun, yet annoyingly buggy games

have you tried fully Un-installing SF and the original BF2, including removing the registry settings? Then doing a "fresh" install, well as close as possible without a format :)

Just a suggestion, windows registry can be a hole heap of mess sometimes.

How would I go about doing this?

            Cheers for the help.

              Re: Sick of BF2/BF2:SF

it runs great for me. the new nvidia drivers really helped. even with all the new features, the thing is that bf2 is not as fun as bf42. this is a real problem that dice has. i think that they should release bf1942/bfv as an expansion of bf2. they could let dice canada do it. won't take all that much work. if only they would...

throw a rebuild into your system... nuke all the crap that might be mucking up things...and don't use the latest video drivers...

This thread explains it best http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showt...hlight=regedit from someone else with the exact same problem (so it saves me typing up the regedit method ) The whole post is relevant but the registry stuff is at the bottom.

                  Click on the Start button.
                  Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} andchoose Delete.
A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
                  Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
