    Amd VS Intel

Hi i have been thinking what cpu is best for games p4 or an amd athlon64 ie a 2.ghz athlon or 3.ghz intel wont the 3.ghz be better ?

LOL NOPE. The base bottom of the line AMDs are almost exactly even with the top of the line Intels. Intel is very very far behing AMD now so I'd stay away from them. AMD is the way to go.

Hahaha.. i do not know one person in this whole forum that could prove that an Intel CPU is better than and AMD CPU of the same grade (ie a P4 3.0ghz vs an AMD 64/Semperon 3000+) So AMD all the way... and call me a fan boy all you want, but AMD kills Intel in gaming.

Oh and an AMD 64 bit running at 2 ghz is "equiv" to an Intel P4 3.0, just the way they work, well actually for gaming the 2Ghz AMd is better, but hey

AMD owns! I have Intel and will stick with it, but my next computer will be AMD!

          Re: Amd VS Intel

In simplistic terms AMDs are better because they execute 9 instructions per clock cycle, whereas Intels perform 6. So

          2.0Ghz AMD @ 9 ops per cycle = 18000000000 ops/sec
          3.0Ghz Intel @ 6 ops per cycle = 18000000000 ops/sec

There are other factors that make AMD perform better, but this is the main reason for the difference in the clock speeds and the easiest to understand.

Another reason is AMD chips have an onboard memory controller which operates at the speed of the processor that doesn't have the added latency of going through a motherboard located memory controller.

For notebook users, a similar rule of thumb holds for Pentium M CPUs. I believe a P-M 2.0GHz is roughly equivalent to a P4 3.2GHz.

amd is way out in front for gaming

better chipsets on the mainboards too
intels chipsets have been lacking for years

So to convert a PM to a P4:

                  1.6 * Ghz = P4 equiv in Ghz

I would have to disagree and say the Intel chipset is the most stable and has been for a long time. I think AMD motherboard chipsets are it's weak point.

Also the best thing i think about AMD's is that they run so much cooler than the Interls, which means more OC'ing can be done.

The Nforce chipset is not as stable as Intels. I don't have to debate something that is widelly known by anyone who knows anything about computers.

In case you don't know Nforce 4 has Intel motherboards as well so it's possible to test them side by side. Note I did not say Intel chipsets are faster or overclock better. I said Intel chipsets are more stable.

and intel has dropped the ball by not keeping with the gaming market and is starting to pay for it in loosing customers to amd
