Just got SF and a little let down.

Well I got SF and I can say Im a little let down.
My reasons follow and let me kno wif ya gusy have suggestions or similar feelings.

Firstly nearly every map if your nto on a map that gives you the ability to use new guns you get 1 shotted. Im still kinda confused about the new guns and hwo the unlocks work so to say, maybe I get them too, bu tI spent my first night locked in as Rebel/MEC team...so when ever I saw an opponent with a SCRAW or F2000 I got insta killed. When asked what was up I was told "in the right hands these guns are deadly" ..well Im nto a noob so to say, i mean after getting 30k points in 3 months I think i know how to aim and play to the best of my abilities and such bu tthese new guns give no pre-dmg for you to run, hide, dip&dive..you just..die.

Night maps..there cool..but as if FPS's dont offer periphiral vision, now your even limited to less from having some of the screen incased in goggles. I think a quick fix to this would just let the screen go green.
Also Ive noticed TKign is abundant on these maps...my opinion why is that as me and many others do we depend on unifrom color to judge enemy vs. team, and since the screen is green it limits are vision and makes it more jumpy for players. I think it's time to eliminate team blue teags and just show opponent red tags, or maybe give a red glow aroudn opponent body, somethign to help judge rather then 30% of the screen blocked out do to goggles and a terrible name tag over lapping.

Some maps seem less thought out. Some seem to direct for opposing team. Vanilla BF2 offered many ways to execute an attack or invasion..these seem a little more direct and 1 sided on some maps. It seems they had alot of time thinking out BF2 maps yet threw these together to fast or something, they lack opposing ways to take action so to say.

Lastly, yes I know BF2 and SF are geared towards Team play, but as we knwo 90% of the tiem thats not how..face it that 90% of players on your team will drive off or be lonewolfs.
Well were this effects...3/4 of these maps rely on manuvering up and over buildings and such..well, not all classes get a grappling hook nor Zip-line.
In my opinion a great addition and added bit of fun would at least give all classes a grappling hook. Yeah I play support and thanks for the tear gas...i guess, but seriously Id trade in my tear gas for a grappling hook instead of a weapon that harms my team if there not rdy, harms me if I dont hit 8 fast enough, clearly visable to the enemy to not bother going into, if I plan to make my attack through it I have to put on my goggles and deal with 30% of my screen obstructed...honestly..I havent nor will I use it. Id use a grappling hook tho

there is more teamwork in SF i think mainly because your squad doesnt suddenly get shredded by an APC in the first few minutes as often. and as for the teargas i found it to be effective in some places. on night flight if you manage to sneak onto the plane and wait in the cargo thing. (in my case i was up there waiting for my squad to spawn on me)

i just popped a few Teargas canisters down stars stunned everyone then we were able to easily cap the flag. the maps imo have many ways to attack a certain area. its even more so when you bring Grappling hooks and Ziplines into play.

Re: Just got SF and a little let down.

I know how you feel. And its one of the following reasons:

1: The game is yet new and you have yet to figure out your way around the maps (the route you ALLWAYS take) and have yet to have some good battles and make good memories.

2: The expansion is half ass and Bf2 is better.

I will keep playing for a bit and might try and get more of these vet badges but its hard as rounds end too quick or I get robbed of my kills. I dont even have a favorite map anymore. I dont like playing as seals, I like sas but they have all the new weapons which I love but I dont want to be them because I dont want to feel like a whore. Rebels are pretty good, Spetsnaz spec op is cool but the rest of the kits look crap. And MEC and Insurgents look and are the greatest. I think there are too many armies and not enough maps. Insurgents and rebels are only on 2 maps and they are awesome especially because of the RPG.

Often I want to just quit and use my new unlocks on say wake island, songhua stalemate or sharqi peninsula. Maybe its just early days and when more people get it there will be more playing and better rounds but I fear they wont get as fun as it was back in the day.

Civilian car and pickup truck are the best vehicles, MP7 is the best unlock. Insurgent and MEC SF are the best armies and I dont even know what map I like. The rest of the game seems too un used. The maps are meant to be smaller but there are annoying routes to flags and awesome places in the map you will never even go because fighting is only ever concerntrated around flags so its pointless putting an awesome looking indoor area at the far end of the map.

And lastly night maps suck balls. They are awesome if you could see without NV with lots of lights. But Its VERY irritating switching nv on and off ALL the time. I feel that the 3 night maps would be REALLY fun to play if they were daylight, or at least playable without nv.

            Bah.

I was a little bit dissappointed aswell but since it's an EA exp I really shouldnt be expecting a new everything-works-super game

Re: Just got SF and a little let down.

I actually like this new expansion... for the most part. After hearing all of the bashing that went on around the forums, I was expecting it to be awful when i first got it but that isn't at all how I felt. I like the new maps and didn't think the night maps were bad at all. Lots of people were saying how they had a huge drop in fps (especially on the Iron Gator map) and this made them have to lower their settings from high, to low. While I did notice a small drop in fps, it doesn't hurt my gameplay at all. And the Iron Gator map ran great for me. In fact, that was one of my favorite maps. Although I do get a large drop in fps every once in a while if there is a large amount of stuff going on, but still nothing that hurts how I play.

The only thing I don't really like is how the new unlocks work. It doesn't really make sense that on the special forces maps you can only use some of the new unlocks with certain teams, while other teams have that unlock as their original weapon without you even unlocking it. But then, on the regular bf2 maps, you can use every single unlock you have. I actually do like being able to use them all on the regular bf2 maps but I just wish it was like that for the special forces maps too.

Anyways, in my opinion, this expansion isn't really as bad as most people make it out to be. Of course, it could still use some work. I also think that some people are really mad at EA for the lack of updates for the game, that they tend to be exaggerating some of the issues with it.

Re: Just got SF and a little let down.

i don't agree in the slighest, it is an expansion its not mean't to be whole new game... it offers alot more team play and the ability to play for a long time without getting killed by arty or planes/helis i think the levels are tough at first but when you get used to them a bit and get used to using grappling hook and zip line they will become second nature like bf2. lastly the weapons imo are not better i still use my old g3 to good effect... and my death count is alot lower because of lack of air support...

it is mean't to bring more fun to the original game because the maps were getting old imo it has done that.

                    :)

Perhaps you didn't read the name of the expansion pack. Special Forces are renowned for performing their missions under the cover of darkness.

I can however understand your frustration at having to switch to nv, if you are still using the "7" key. I changed that to the "f" key very quickly. Made it a lot more accesible and useful. You may even find it gives you an "unfair" advantage when playing.

bought SF, have no problems with installation or fps, but those freaking nightmaps are boring, and those maps are just to big, only that ghost town looks to have potential
