PLS help! pathc 1.12 stops BF2 and SF from starting!

I have downloaded the patch 3 times, on the off chance that it was a corrupted d/l

I have uninstalled BF2 and SF twice and reinstalled and then repatched (I patched both straight to 1.12)

Every time I try to launch the game it just shows the MS error box asking if I want to send an error report

5 HOURS I have spent trying to get this to work. Any thoughts?

Is this a known 1.12 problem, should I just install both games afresh and not patch them?

PLEASE HELP, I am tearing my ruddy hair out!

Hmm...after installing SF and the patch I get the same thing after I play SF. Once I quit it reboots my PC then brings up a recovered from a serious windows error. Everything else runs really slow. Like contecting to my first webpage takes forever as does loading MSN or Xfire. I dunno what it is m8 but its driving me crazy as well. At least I can run my game though :)
