I Need Help (pc Related)

Okay, please if anyone knows...

PC #2:
Athlon XP 1800+, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, GeForce6200 256MB card.

I have installed BF2 and SF - btw do not try installing SF on a 1.0 version of BF2, it doesn't work.

I had such a pain in the ass installing this game, upgrading to each patch individually.

Anyway, my problem is with those spec, I have bf2 and SF running on all low settings, even though I should be able to push harder, and it chops. It's hard to explain, when I'm in game, i can move around for a few seconds then it freezes for like a second then it goes back to normal for a few more seconds, then it does it all over again. It's a constant pain in the ass and I was up ALL night trying to figure it out. My Direct X is up to date, my nvidia drivers are current, I even rolled back the drivers to a previous version to see if that was it. my BIOS has the correct AGP settings for my card, I have tried disabling my soundcard.

I, for the life of me can not figure out what is wrong, and I troubleshoot by nature, hell... it's my job to troubleshoot, so you can see why I'm getting so frusterated.

Please, if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. I spent alot of money yesterday upgrading this second pc so my friends can play BF2/SF with me at home.

1.5GHz is more than enough bro. If fact, I was playing BF2 on this very same PC, with a 5200 128mb card in July and it ran decent. It NEVER chopped like this.

oh and for the record, I bought new IDE ribbons too.

Well for one the Processor runs at 1.7Ghz but if yours is running at 1.5 Ghz then it is under the system requirements for the game anyway.

An 1800+ doesn't run at 1.7....
and this is all side-stepping the real issue. the proc is more than capable of running bf2 as it has before in the past.

Well I don't know what's up with it, all the patches took forver to install too, and they shouldn't have taken like 10 minutes a patch, should they have?

I just installed Empire Earth II and everything is set to VERY HIGH and it's running flawless. so wtf..?

Oh yeah sorry the artical was about over clocking it to that.

It runs at 1533Mhz, which as i already stated is under the system requirements for the game, plus you might not be getting enough power to the componets due to the PSU not being powerful enough.
Plus ever since the 1.12 patch came out the game was basically un-optimised meaning it takes an even stupider amount of resources to run it.

Yeah, it takes several minutes on my CPUso 10 min sounds about right for yours.

Yeah it would take about that i have a

amd athlon 2600+
1GB RAM
geforce fx 5200

and it took about 10-15 min to update and after would i had to low my settings from medium/low to low because of the crappy coding by dice.

Hmm - well I could try to OC my proc but I dunno if that will solve it. Again, it used to run just fine on vanilla about 5 months ago.

I have a 350watt PSU in that pc and the only cards I have in there are 1 AGP and 1 PCE (network card).

You need more ram, the freezing you are seeing is your hard drive trying to keep up with the info the game needs.

1 Gig total will improve, but on your system I would try to get 1.5 gig of ram if not 2 gig total.

Well all these suggestions sound fine and dandy, but my major issue is WHY?

Again, it used to work just FINE with a lower video card...
Same ram, same proc... and it ran perfect. my buddy was able to get to Sargent rank (pre-1.03). So you know that's alot of playing on this very pc so wtf?

You need more ram, the freezing you are seeing is your hard drive trying to keep up with the info the game needs.

It won't much, his proccessor is also limiting his system alot, he needs more RAM and a new processor.

I already explained why, because dice and ea are **** and un-optimised the game in the patch therefore meaning it now needs more resource to load the things that would have loaded fine before.
