Strange BF2 Problem or isit supposed to do this?

It seems when i first enter a game at the team select screen i can change to the other team once and then I cant change back.

If i click on the original teams tab it doesnt do anything.

This seems like a very strange problem so im not so sure if it is, it seems more like a feature...Is it supposed to do this for some reason?

The server has auto-ballance enabled.
