I've seen comments about AMD + ASUS having problems is this true?

I want to update drivers but I'm deliberating over it. Right now I have the 77.30 drivers (completely owned in vanilla 50-60 fps constant) now in SF I had to turn settings down to medium and turn off all lighting and shadows...and I still am only getting 30-40. I saw the 81.89 betas and the 81.95...just wondering if anyone has some suggestions, specs in sig.

should i go for it or wait until they patch it?

I have an Athlon 64 3200+ and an ASUS K8V Deluxe mobo and I've not had any problems. I've heard there can be problems with them too, but my particular combination has ran rather well for me. Of course, I don't have SF either, so this is based solely on when I played Vanilla BF2. Why that would change to SF is beyond me, but I assume it would be the same.

I have an Asus A8V Deluxe with an AMD64 3000+ and XFX GF6800GT.

The only issue I have is piloting choppers on some SF maps...the FPS are still high but it's stuttering like mad..completely unflyable.

yea ive got a K8N with an AMD 2800, i didnt have any problems until SF, ran a constant 40-50 fps with a gforce 5600 and 1.5 gb of ram

I have a AMD 3800+ with the ASUS SLI Deluxe Mobo, Graphics card is a eVGA 6800GT.

Have not had any problems except on the first day I installed the BF:SF I CTD 3 times. I installed the latest nvidia drivers released on Nov. 22nd. Hadn't had anymore problems other than that. FPS is about 60-80 graphics are cranked as high as they will go :)

There isn't such a thing like this...ever...as long you use the equipment right...I'm a defensor of that label's...in case you didn't notice...lol

spec in sig, i get a lil stutter when flying helos...still not bad enough were i won the ribbon

Is this a known issue or something? I get some stutter while flying too. Happens on some land maps as well. Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.

scratch my problems, i didnt know about the new nvidia drivers, so i went and installed those, works half the time. one minute im cruising at 50 fps and then bamf down to 15!

Same issue here. Same mainboard and processor. I have an X800 256MB. I have the same problems. Chopper is unflyable.

Read the release notes on them, unless you aren't rendering fog on a 5950 Ultra than there is no reason to install the new drivers for BF2, this is from BFG too.

you can not link performance drops to a mobo manufacturor, maye the chipset yes, but not very likely

I'm not so sure, it could be the mobo / chipset. When I bought the Asus A8N-SLI deluxe I read about the northbridge fan problem. Hundreds of people reported their northbridge fans going out and ended up with dead systems. Asus should have done a recall on it but they still haven't done anything. Just yesterday I go to reboot and my bios tells me the fan is dead. Sure enough I open up the case and the fan stopped spinning. Who knows how long it would have been before my mb died.

The heatsink on the dead fan was so hot that it burned my fingers. Luckily I had a "bad" A8N-SLI motherboard that had a failure with the memory ports (I should have known then) so I ripped the northbridge fan off that and put it on this board. Who knows how long this fan will last.

I would suggest that people not buy an Asus board in the future. Asus owed all of their customers a recall on this defective heap of junk but they still refuse to acknowledge the issue. If my board had died, I'd be much more ****ed off but I got off lucky.
