Joining server problem

Hi all,

After installing Sf today Im very impressed, apart from one thing. When I click to join a server it loads up the map and gets to the bit were you either press Esc or click 'Join game'. When I do either, the game quits back to the server selection screne and says "This server only allows players with unmodified Battlefield 2 content. Please revert back to your original version", or something like that.

Its really annoying since I only just got it, and expect to get my moneys worth out of something. Anyone else had this problem, and more importantly has anyone found a fix?

Hi Miles.

I have the very same problem - just uninstalled SF and BF2, reinstalled BF2, then let SF patch it and install itself, then used the 1.12 (280 meg) patch.

Just done a defrag and will reboot, so I'll post back in a mo....

Ok......

First run after the reboot, the graphics options needed to be setup again, but everything else (apart from mouse speed) was still the same - I didn't tick the option to remove profiles at uninstall.

After restarting the game, I attempted to connect to an internet game, this instantly gave me an error about "Mods/BF2/Shaders/Paticles.FX" - some sort of 'problem' (looked to give memory references).

After a nice crash to desktop, I re-loaded SF and tried running the game locally - this got to 62% loading and crashed right back to desktop - without any errors.

So, things aren't looking to rosey at the moment, gonna change my Catalyst drivers from 5.9 to 5.7; see if that helps....

2048 megs of OCZ 3200 Platinum CAS2
ATi Radeon X800XT PCI-E
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Nlite'd XP Pro SP2

There ya go fella

Seems like a full re-install is needed to sort this one!

Mine is now up and running fine, the errors above seem to be a result of me having 2xAA and 4xAF on my drivers, doh!

* One thing I did do though, was to rename my "Battlefield 2" folder within My docs.

It becomes a EA/DICE legend now to break more things than they try to fix or to add something in a patch or expansion.

From EA BF2 website:

IMPORTANT
If you've installed the 1.12 update to the "core" Battlefield 2 product and then installed Battlefield 2: Special Forces afterwards, you will need to re-apply the 1.12 update to be able to play on the new 1.12 Servers.

As my friend put it, the only way to fix these problems is to blow-up EA Headquarters and have someone else remake BF2.
