The tear gas effect is really unrealistic in BF2. In real life, tear gas gets its name because it is a very strong irritant which causes people's eyes to tear (as well as lots of pain, making it hard to fight). What I don't understand is why tear gas seems to make you "dizzy" in special forces. In real-life, the tears would blur your vision. And yes, it's a game, but if we can help the realism without hurting the gameplay, why not do it?

Teargas is useless.
I dont even think ive been affected by it once. Other than on purpose.
Lands near you or you see it in the distance you instantly put on the mask.
The only usefullness it would have is shooting it on a night map, that way they will have to use night vision or gas mask. Then they wont be able to see you and you can kill them but I dont think its effective enough. Where as flashbangs are TOO usefull.Comment

Like any weapon, it requires proper application. If you notice hand grandes generally suck when thrown at someone who knows it is coming. If you want to tear someone, you fire it around a corner so it detonates without time for the infantry to compensate.Comment

Blur your vision and maybe add some screams to the coughing. What would you rather have it do?
I'm pretty sure people don't cry because of the pain, but simply because your eye wants to flush it out (as it does with most forgien material). Then again, it's probably enough to make you cry.Comment

Originally posted by SneakyLilBastardHeh, I need to get used to the timing of when the cannister blows up. Each time I pick a spot I want it to explode at, it bounces all over the darn place and explodes elsewhere.

I believe it detonates whenever the canister stops.Comment
