im n00bish about computers, so need advices..

I have now a FX5200 128mb and with the new patch, I cant seem to run the game smoothly anymore.. so Im checking for a new vid card for christmas.

But I have a question : If I buy a new vid card, will I have to change motherboard or processor ? I mean, I dont want to buy a card and then realize that it is not compatible with my motherboard....

Here's my specs (btw, Im still a high school student so I dont want to waste alot of money on computer)

    AMD Athlon 64 2800+
    512 DDR 400Mhz
    ASUS K8V-X Motherboard
    NVidia FX5200 128mb
420 ~500 Watt power supply (dont remember exactly)

anyway thx ya if you can help

you might be wanting to buy a nice geforce 6600 GT for xmas if you dont have that much, oh and it is vital to buy ram for bf2, it gets very ram hungry, and if you can, buy a ATI x800XL like I did, the processor you have seems ok.

      You're good,

Just make sure it is an 'AGP' card and NOT a PCI Express.

i think mojo meant unknown's motherboard is good enough, so no need to worry about it.

Yeah what MojoFlow said, make sure it is an AGP card. If your looking for a good mid range card then i would suggest the 6600Gt as well. I would strongly suggest another 512mb of ram too.

if you can, get a 6800gt and much more ram. 2gb is optimal and makes a hell of a difference.

Do they do 6800GT's in AGP?

I personnaly want to no how they un-optimised the ****ty game so much that it doesn't work.

I have the same GPU by the way, and it only just works on low, which is retarded considering it worked on low/medium before.

I have a similar system to you:

                          1.8GHZ Athlon 2500+
                          256MB RAM
                          FX5200

I run everything on low, get very long load times and many lockups...

                          Hey, it still works.
