still does not work

I install BF2, then without rebooting I install SF, and that patches automatically to 1.1 before installing. At this stage neither game works (BF2 worked before installing SF with the 1.1 patch). And then patching 1.12 makes no difference

Basically I start either game and the BF2 splash comes up goes away and then I get the windows error message asking to send an error report.

I have installed and uninstalled, tried using my primary hdd and my secondary hdd, cleared the registry manually etc and NOTHING works

Well done EA, you released an expansion pack that is screwed up.

I'm guessing it is the 1.1 patch that automatically starts when I install SF, anyway of stopping that?

Okay, I have always had problems with BF2 Patchs whether 1.02 or 1.03. Always got the "Patching Failed". Until now, I manually patched everytime and it worked. But now, when the installation of Special Forces prompts to install 1.11, it does "patching failed" again.

What I did was Explore the BF2SF CD, get the patch executable out, and then manually install 1.11, it worked. Now, when I try installing SF, it stills tries to install 1.11 but fails.

How could I just install the game without the patch ( since it's already there) or are there other solutions????

I need help, i heard that ur suppose to install the 1.12 patch on the battlefield 2 first and then install the special forces patch and re install the 1.12 patch on it. but i can install it on the "core" of the game because im out of disc space on the C drive, but i can't find a way to install it on my D drive how do u do it?

Never got this problem. Not yet anyway. Found this on BF2.se


1. Click Start.
2. Go to Run.
3. Type regedit and hit OK button.
4. Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
6. Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
7. Double click on EA Games folder.
8. Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
9. Double click on ergc folder.
10. Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
11. Right click on it and select Modify.
12. Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.
13. Double click on Battlefield 2 Special Forces folder.
14. Double click on ergc folder.
15. Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
16. Right click on it and select Modify.
17. Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.
note: do not use your Battlefield 2: Special Forces CD key.

Exempel: x9392(Your BF2 cd key)

1. If the issue persists, you will need to uninstall the game completely and then reinstall and repatch to completely remove and replace corrupted files.

Don't think it shoud do any difference but i always reboot when an application asks me.

the correct way of installing is BF2-->SF-->1.12 patch

If you install the 1.12 patch before you install SF you will need to re-install it to be able to play normal BF 2. Thats what i have heard so perhaps you where thinking of that?

About the disc space here's an solution found on the exellent site BF2.se .

I found solution that worked for me (with 1.3GB free space on system drive Wink ).

It is advised that you create backup of system registry before proceeding.

Run regedit

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\Curr entVersion

Do not expand CurrentVersion node, just highlight it.
Find ProgramFilesDir variable in the window on the right side of the screen.
It will point to your program files directory (usually "C:\Program Files").
Change that path to folder on a drive that has enough space to patch BF2. Close regedit (this will save changes) and run the patch. After the patching is finished open regedit again and restore the previous value to the ProgramFilesDir (don't forget to do it - your system may become unstable if you won't).

This worked for me. I hope it will help at least some of you too.

yeah, I have tried it both ways, spent over 15 hours, with about 6 reinstalls trying every fix I can think of and find.

disable background processes, new drivers for display and audio, reformats, diskscans, basic sound acceleration, new admin account, install on primary and/or secondary HDD, etc etc

the only thing I haven't tried yet is a complete winXP reinstall, which is planned for the weekend.

oh the pain of a reinstall...I can feel it now

and I bet 50:50 it wont bloody work anyway :evil:

i changed it to

the X's being my cd key is that the right way?

well iam having problems it wont let me select my harddrive! i dont want it on c cuz there is no room so want it on e my hard is partitioned so i dont know if thats the problem. so what happens is where it tells me to select my drive automatically skips and goes to the next screen can anyone help me?

i think he means the "-"
Ex. cd key is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX So don't type the "-"

It will automatically install in the BF/Mods directory.

If you have BF on the C drive you need to create some space for it.
If you don't have BF on the C drive follow my previous post 2-3 posts up about the disc space sortage.

I have had the same problem i solved it by doing this ( parts of this or the hole thing has allready been posted in other threads)


I first

1) Uninstalled Bf2 Special forces then Battlefield 2. removed all profiles,screenshots and server configs aswell.

Restarted the computer

2) Create a new Windows Account with admin rights. I named mine "bf 2"

3) Now logoff the account you are currently in and login to the newly created account.

4) Install Battlefield 2 then restart your computer

5) Install Special forces. Don't forget to login in to your new account before installing this.

6) Install the 1.12 patch.

Finished.

Somehow all my patch problems went away when i created a new windows account and installed everything bf2 related on that account.
I do however need to play on this account aswell.
I tried at first to install all things on my new bf 2 account and then play on the old account but just got the cd key not valid message.

I tryed this and it worked! so when I tried to play BF2SP , at 52% download before i can get the level started, it crashed and said there was currepted data. So I uninstalled both BF2 and BF2SP. I installed BF2, sussescful. Tried to download BF2SF, not sussescful. It said "patch failed". Some one help me with this s**t please!

I had the same problem as you. I created the new windows account and install went properly.But. If I try to connect a server it throws me to desktop and I can't run the file bf2cdkeycheck because I get an error.Anyone can help me?
