Dude, it's marketing. One group of players will have the advantage with better weapons. The other players won't want to be out gunned so they'll run and get SF so they can even things out and have advantage over others. It's just simple marketing, they're in it for the profit.

Buy SF is what they want you to do.. they will ruin the original BF2

And the ranked servers.. Ive been asking for 2 months why ranked servers
cost twice as much as unranked? anyone EVER gonna answer this
question? HUGE SCAM.

People, wake up, EA are crooks. DICE I dont mind as much, as they are
just some idiot programmers who couldnt program their alarm clocks without
needing several patches to do so.. but Christ Almighty! Have you ever seen
a more idiotic set of examples proof positive of EAs scams ?

Or... are they just really really really really really really really stupid ?

One or the other, theres no doubt.

What a shame..BF2 had potential.. but EA released it, and thats its downfall.

Its just very clever marketing on EA's part.

And the expansion isn't that bad I like the new map and gameplay.

they probably had notied the comunity wasn't so happy with the upcumming expansion and said they didn't where going to buy it before BF2 was bug free.

So, they took some marketing tricks out of there sleeves and yes, more people will buy SF now.

This actualy means they aren't dumb at all, but this also means the customer is screwed

The new weapons confer no advantage, just like the original BF2 unlocks confer no advantage. They're just different, they're alternatives. There's even a table showing the stats for the guns somewhere on the forum that proves the SF guns aren't better.

Ok, I'll field this one.

It works like this. A ranked server provider (RSP) is required to supply EA with 300+ slots or they will not be given the privilige to lease ranked servers. EA then uses these slots to make up their "official EA servers". So EA gets their servers for free. Now the RSP isn't just going to give these slots to EA, someone has to pay and guess who that is? The people who rent the ranked servers. The price of these extra slots gets passed along to them. Although I don't like this system I don't think you can call EA stupid as this seems to be working very well.

As long as there are people willing to rent ranked servers, it will continue like this. If clans stopped running ranked servers then there would be no ranked system at all. The RSPs wouldn't continue giving away slots to EA if they were not being compensated for it in some way and I'm pretty sure EA isn't going to go out and lease servers or pay for the slots.

factors that contribute to the problem

EA wants money, not customer satisifaction
EA games mostly played by 12 years old kids, which give them reason to not care about customers, and also contribute to the stupidity that comes with most EA games.

Sounds like both the clans AND the providers should boycott EA on this one. I mean the high prices were bad enough, but EA gets off completely free on the servers, and they're the ones already with billions of dollars? Truely sad if you ask me.

I look for EA to throw quite a few curve balls at the community to keep their pocketbooks protected (read protected as full).

Having played many games over the years, its pretty clear to me the moment the company that made the game was bought by EA, the moment they stop releasing bug fixes and move on to an expansion

And infact now that I think about it all games I hate because of bugs and lack of customer support comes from EA or a company under EA.

The new weapons give plenty advantage in the new expansion pack. If you think its unfair for those who do not get the expansion pack not to get the new weapons then...... go buy the expansion its really that simple. But due expect 1.13 to fix some other minor issues.

Me either!

Project Reality is already out (or the mini-mod is anyway

) and now I can't stand to play vanilla BF2 for more than 2 minutes. Many others feel the same and the PR community is growing everyday!

I am also looking forward to many of the other quality mods being released, there's some really fantastic work being done among the mod teams.

In future developments I see with modded BF2 is a community run ranking system. The scripts are already there and I will be playing around with them to get my teams server running with its own ranking system soon.
