Re: BF2 Server Monitor - Sick of Full Servers?! Check this tool out: BF2ServerWatch

Great start, but needs some work. Add an option so that it can be minimized to the taskbar. Not needed, but helps a lot when your bar is crowded.

Also, if you have the time to create such a program, I'm sure you can find the time to add support for alternate ports. I'm sure it's not as hard as you probably think it is.

Also, under the File menu, why is there three dashes, and when that's selected, another blank modular window opens with just an exit button. Wtf? Same with Help. It opens a modular window with the button to view about. Are you having trouble creating menus, or are you just bored?

By the way, if you're going to make a tutorial on something (i.e. stats gathering), don't steal it from the BF2 wiki and post it up here. Additionally, I won't even comment on your actual "example" code... All I can say is, don't quit Burger King.

Great idea for a program. I will download it and check it out defenatly.

I dont know if this will work, because I cant code for ****, BUT for the auto load (when a free slot is detected), what if you skipped opening up the program, logging into EA and went right to joining? All people would have to do is open up the program themselves, and log in.

        It could work like this.

Player opens up his BF2 program and logs in.
He refreshes the server browser and notices that his favorite server is FULL.
He opens up your program, and sets it to check the server.
The program detects an open slot, opens up the multiplayer tab, opens up the connect to IP box, enters in the IP address and port number and connects.

Even with out the auto join, its a great program, just thought I'd make a suggestion.

          CaptainPuffy,

Hey bud, thanks for the support!

I like your idea on the auto-launch, even though the end-user would have to follow a set procedure to make it work. Manulipating GUIs that don't belong to the application is very feasible, but can be tricky at the same time. That's why I just play a sound instead, so the user can have the IP already typed in and all they need to do is hit the CONNECT button when the buzzer goes off.

I will, however, look into your proposal, because I can think of several apps off the top of my head that do exactly what you mention, and it would make things much easier for the end-user. For example, if the buzzer goes off when you're getting another beer, it'll join for you  .

          Thanks Again,
          HardcoreMF

It seems that you picked out everything little thing you could to rant on about, mostly due to your incompetent, inept ability to thoroughly understand the full technical scope on how something like this works. If you want me to do it "your way", you'd basically have to pay me; something that's highly unlikely on your part-time Burger King income. Anyway, since you lack such direction and guidance, allow me to properly educate you:
Wow, there you lost all respect I had for you. If you read ANY of my posts on this forum, you'd know I'm against directly attacking anyone. I was trying to provide you with some ideas to enhance this program which you released, as it is 'incomplete' in my eyes. Also, I like the program, and I will continue using it. Nowhere did I state I did not like it. And you're attacking my life with your burger king reference? Since you brought it up, I work as an intern for a company. I built and manage their website, and am paid for that. I helped largely in the engine that runs their software, and I got paid for that. Acutally, I bet I got paid more for that than you get in a year.

And before you go and insult me, I have 9 years of programming behind me, both software, hardware, and online (websites). Creating simple .exe's in Delphi, PASCAL or Visual Basic are phases in my past. I know the many issues in it, and I know how to get around them.

When you criticize someone, at least get your facts straight, otherwise it makes yourself look even more foolish -- congratulations.
Obviously you do not know basic English. I am fully aware of the minimize capabilities of Windows programs, that is not what I am asking. You see all those little icons next to your clock? Usually your network connections, messengers, and things of the like go there. Programs (like Vent and TS) can have the ability to minimize to that location, instead of to the main taskbar area. This is referred to as "Minimizing to the taskbar".

This utility is for popular servers, and most popular servers already use the standard ports. If I get enough requests for something like that, I'll probably add it in, but before you make assumptions on how things do and don't work and the simplicity thereof, you should probably do your homework first.
You said you'd do it if you got enough requests, consider this one of those requests. And yes, I am fully aware of the querrying method used for things such as this.

I know what the hell floatable menus are. And 'floatable' isn't even the correct term. It's a modular menu. As I said in my original post. GUI's are nothing new, and anyone who knows anything regarding software design knows what a GUI is. And again, you attempt to attack me with an insult.

First, do NOT attack the statistic remarks. My tutorial is linked to on several thousand websites, and I'm sure that it's on many more I'm not aware of. I've had people who've worked with PHP for years come up to me and we've worked together to create amazing uses for it you'd never think of. The API I'm working on now is over 6,000 lines of code long, more code than you've probably ever seen at one time. It allows for full customization of stat retrieval, storage (caching), and image creation. It can be used for so much, I wouldn't know how to begin to describe it. Many of the systems you see out there that query the stat server originated with my code.

Regarding my contribution to this community, I do what I can. I'm one of the more active members here, and make several posts a day, most of which contribute positively to the community. I'm nearing 900 posts, none of which would be considered 'spam' by a regular forum visitor.

I am in regular contact with GameWizard, who you should know by name, and it's thanks to me that you can click a little button below your avatar to see someone's stats. Though I do admit that got3n did most of the work for that, it would NOT work if I did not chime in to help. Not to mention that most of the forum members will recognize me.

Regarding the bf2 community in general, I was the first person to have a bf2 stat sig tutorial. Taco followed shortly after, and BF2S after that, followed by BF2Tracker. Taco and I work together on issues that come up, instead of insulting the skills of one another.

Instead of sitting here and throwing insults at me (poorly, if I may add), why not explain it in a slightly lighter tone, and all would be fine?

            If it's a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get.

                Salad,

First, allow me to say that you weren't offering suggestions, but were actually negatively criticizing a utility that I was merely offering to the general BF2 community. Why? I don't even know you, and you certainly don't know me, so my question stands, "why?".

I'll keep this short, but will point out a few things:
                1. If you like the utility, great -- I am glad. If not, feel free to delete it, no harm done and sorry to waste your time.
                2. No, you probably don't make more $ than me. Remember, you're still an intern with 9 years of experience, who manages some website. Then again, I could work at Burger King myself --- I guess we will never know
                3. Your holier-than-thou attitude is exactly why I wouldn't hire someone like you. You flame my utility, I call you on it, and u write a novel as a rebuttal that explains how great you are, even though you haven't really done anything on your own (from what I gathered).
                4. You specified Minimizing to the Taskbar, not systray. Yes, you can minimize to both, but you clearly indicated Taskbar (go check). Perhaps you just meant Systray - no big deal.
                5. I like the this GUI's modular ability. You may not, why flame me for it? Just don't use it, it's quite simple really.
                6. No, I don't know the GameWizard, Superman, or even Santa Claus. I guess because you have E-mail conversations with these folks, you live a much richer and fulfilling life. I am happy for you, really.
                7. Yes, it appears you are an active member of the forum community - that's great. This is not meant to come across in a sarcastic way, as I honestly mean it.

With that said, why did you send me a private message that completely contradicts all your previous posts?

Quote, "...If you do not stop with your constant flaming, I will be forced to report you to the TBF2 administration... ~Salad".

C'mon man, go back and read this thread and settle your negative comments with me. That doesn't happen by back-dooring me with the site administrators by sending Private Messages to "set the stage"; Trust me, I see this tactic all the time.

I'll tell you what bud, let's just drop the whole thing.

Just a followup for everyone, right after he sent that private message, the site admin sent me a message. It seems he had no intention of working this out, as he said in the PM. Oh well, I hope it ends.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there's an updated version of this utility: v1.0.2 build 206. The biggest difference is the fact is stores off your last IP address into the registry.

The download URL is still the same: http://bfvrental.com/BF2ServerWatch.exe Let me know if you have any questions!
