Patching failed! + SF on a dvd - a combination making me insane.

Since the first patch for bf 2 I've had the seemingly common problem with the "patching failed error". Previously I've been able to bypass it by installing the patches manually using command prompt and the files the patch unpacks in the temp folder.
When I bought SF the good old method didn't work anymore. The stupid installation program doesn't care if I have patched my game or not. It still want's to install the 1.1 patch (ofcourse failing in it with the infamous patching failed error). I've used all my free time during the last two days reading forums, trying different tricks and plucking my hair off to get by this, but nothing seems to work. I've checked the registries to make sure the installation folder's correctly written there, I've tested my ram, I've emptied my temp folder multiple times, I've partitioned some 10 Gigabytes more space to my c: to make sure the error's not because of low disk space on my windows drive, I've even tried the ancient Finnish "make-all-computers-work" rain dance with no results! And the EA support doesn't care to reply my messages!
I'd be most grateful if someone could help me and save me from the arising symptoms of schizophrenia :) .
    Thanks in advance.

I was going to suggest the raindance

Besides that, try turning ALL background programs off like spyware checkers/anti-virus first.

    Good luck !

Ok, I got this from the swedish forum @ www.bf2.se and I presume you don't understand swedish, so I'll try to explain:

Create a new account in windows (it must be admin) and install bf2, sf and the newest patch there. Then try to play it in your old account and if that doesn't work then you'll have to log in to the account that you just created and play the game in that account every time (maybe you can move your settings from one account to another, check this thread for more info: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42129 )

I don't know why you don't get the "patching failed" when you install the game in another account but atleast it worked for me.

Good luck with the installation and may you not get "patching failed" this time

        Great!!! Thanks! Tusen tackar!
Worked like a charm. Though my windows somehow lost my old profile. But that's a small price to pay after everything I've tried. And I think I may be able to get my old settings back because the old account folder's still there. I owe you big time!

See you on the fields of battle!
