I would imagine it just wasn't cost effictive for one reason or another to release the DVD version in the US. -

DVD disc cost the same make. BF2 took 1/3 the time to install and loads quicker.Comment

Ehhh, not 100% sure. Probably because it wasn't that big. So they just made it universal. However, I do agree. I love the DVD versions.Comment

Because EA is stupid.
Look at NFSMW Black Edition, it came with four CD's and an extra DVD. All of them combined was less than the space of a single DVD, why the hell didn't they put it on a single DVD instead of 5 discs? and it's not because people don't have DVD drives, THERES A DVD IN THE SET.Comment

OMG! Now people are complaining about 10 minutes more to install something. My God!! I bet if you would have been around when the 166mhz was the fastest you could buy.... You would have blown your brains out huh? Jeez ... Youngsters these days ... No patience AT ALL !!Comment
