  • FPS: Am I getting what I should be getting??

    Hey all,

I've built a system the other day and I'm wondering if I'm getting the performance I should be getting out of it. Somehow I expected more...

    Specs:

    Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
    AMD X2 4200+
    2GB of OCZ PC3200 DDR400 (platinum, 2 x 1GB modules, dual channel)
BFG 7800GTX OC (drivers are totally uptodate with the nvidia website)
    Antec TPII 550W psu
    onboard sound (yes it's crappy)
17" NEC Multisync 77F CRT monitor (old but still kicking)
    DirectX is updated to C.

Everything is up to date, windows update has been run, norton is disabled when playing the game... I'm getting a rate of between 50-75 fps with it set on HIGH for everything (100% distance) and 1024x768 res. AA and AF are both off. I read over on the EAGAMES.co.uk site to put VSYNC on to eliminate the stuttering caused by the dual processor issues with the X2 line.

I know that framerate is good, but I've read about people getting solid 100's with lesser systems. If you need any other info please let me know.

    Thanks!

Dual Cores are not as good as single cores when it comes to gaming... but some dual cores beat out the single core cpu's...

      Heres a link...

      http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...u-games_3.html

Your CPU is rated the same FPS as a 3500+ Single Core..

Thanks for that site but it only illustrates my point further:

I'm running 2GB of low latency ram with a better graphics card (GTX vs. GT used in test) and they're getting FPS' of like 200 with an X2 3800+

yeah something sounds off, i get 50-90 FPS w/ my X1800 XL at 1280x1024 6xAAA and High AF and your card is better than mine so something is definately up with your card or drivers
