To BF2, or not to BF2 .. That is the question...

Maybe I am completely off base here, but from everything I had heard, the expansion was coming out on the 21st (Monday). By “coming out”, I don't mean the sexual preference of the game ... but I assumed that it would be on the shelves. So I called several stores, only to find out that it was not in stock. I even called my local Best Buy store. I said “I was wondering if you had a software title in stock.” The kind employee at the other end replied, “Is is BF2: Special Forces?”. I chuckled, and said “yeah”. She said that they knew the release date was the 21st, but they had no idea where the shipment was.

Today is Wednesday, and none of the local stores (WalMart, Best Buy, Fry’s, etc..) have the expansion. This sucks.

I don’t usually complain about EA Games. I have had a wonderful experience with BF2. I was never a “gamer” until this came out. But I do think there is a lot to be desired on the communication from the company regarding the release and availability of this title.

I don't live in some small out of the way city either. It is a big place with lots of stores :)

I went to Best Buy here in Sacramento, CA yesterday the 22nd to buy the expansion. They said it wasn't out until the 23rd. I informed them that they were mistaken and to check the computer again. Upon checking again, the Best Buy reference system shows the STREET DATE (the day that they recieve the shipment) as the 21st and the SHELF DATE (the day that it is supposed to go on the shelves for purchase) as the 23rd. I explained to them that I always buy my games at Best Buy ON the release date and that this is very odd. They checked again and saw that every one of the Best Buy's in the area had copies listed as AVAILABLE (including theirs). I literally spent 1 hour sitting in Best Buy trying to get my copy. I finally got it and they apologized for their mistake.

The fact of the matter is that MANY places had no clue which way was up yesterday because of the XBox 360's being released and the shipments of SF got overlooked in the craziness that Microsoft caused with their damndable Xbox360 (which I plan to buy in the near future ). So go to your local Best Buy and they WILL have it available unless they sold out. Make them look in their system and see how many show up. It may surprise even them.

Werd! I just called one of the FOUR ebGames in Austin. The second one I called has it in stock. On the way now to fork over my cash!

In Denver pretty much every place had it on Tues. 11/22. EB Games, Gamestop, Best Buy, CompUSA.

However, with Best Buy, yes sometimes it is like pulling teeth to get them to put out the new titles on release day. I worked part time for Best Buy and I always had to go in the back to find the new titles for my own purchase, since no one had any sense of urgency in getting the new titles out of the back an on to the shelves. I would go back to find one for me and then see them finally put the new stuff on the shelves several days after release. But they always made sure that all of the new movies on DVD were out on release day. Guess they just don't get the fact that gamers want their games on release day just as much as the movie buffs want their DVD movies.

Ended up buying mine (3 copies for my LAN) at Gamestop. Needed 4, but bought all they had.
