I have to say I am very satisfied with this expansion pack. It some what reminds me of when Call of Duty: United Offense came out. How so you ask? Well COD:UO helped to extend a great game and Special Forces in my eyes is doing that very same thing. When Battlefield 2 first came out, I was instantly hooked. Sure people complained about, Black Hawk Whoring, Vehicle Whoring, Stat Padding, and a variety of other things, but if you found a decent server you’d have some major fun, especially in Squads.
The first time I ran Special Forces I went all lone wolf. I’d pretty much forgotten about squads since I’d been playing more of FEAR and Quake 4. After about two maps I realized the great potential and power Squads can now play in the expansion. Unfortunately none of my IRL friends whom I play with have the expansion yet, however, I did forum up into some squads with some people online anyways. Case and point, I was playing Ghost Town (SAS vs Russian) and it was just one squad with me, as assault, on the other guy as spec ops. We had great control of the map because I could get us up high with the grappling hook and he could get us across the map easily with his zip line. And that was with just two guys.
Then it hit me, what if we had a Support guy and Medic, right there would be a force to be reckoned with, especially if everyone is playing their roll correctly. Example, an assault guy could get the team up high, support could gas a flag, spec ops could provide the quick route to the flag, and medic can be tossing health in the gas with a mask on, or support, something to that nature. Also, there would be a really good Sniper/Assault/Support combo and or Support/Anit-Tank Combo. Really, the effectiveness of being in a squad has doubled now.
Of course, we all know people will still have their own agenda, mostly point whores, but I just love the fact that a really good squad could help win it for an entire team ten fold now. It is my hope with this expansion pack that people start to group up more and some good team play is put in place.
PS – I don’t claim to be a video game guru nor expect everyone to agree with me. However, please consider this is just my opinion and personal feelings on the game itself.
