    Trackir for BF2??

TrackIR adds depth to the PC gaming experience by enabling players to take control of the in-game view.

I want to know if anyone has found a way to use this for BF2 or any other FPS game, this would be perfect for a FPS game. If we can somehow get a FPS game to use this it would change the way we play the game and its not that bad pricewise.

Don't get confused about what thie product does...

It's not head mounted. You turn your head, but you have to keep your eyes fixed on the screen. That feels very unnatural to me. Try it.

IF it was coupled with a headmounted display of subtantial quality, it could be a very cool thing. It would only work with games that support it by allowing a permanant free-look.

That said... imagine that setup while flying a blackhawk? Or gunning for one? Or... oh hell, it's just be uber-cool.

Need the head mounted display quality to come up several pegs tho.

I recently purchased the TrackIR Pro with vector expansion pack. (buy the vector expansion it makes a huge difference) I bought it for race sims and it is amazing with them. However, most of my race sims have direct support for the trackIR. BF2 has no support as you are aware. There is a mouse emulation program that comes with the TrackIR so you can replace your mouse movement with your head movements...doesnt work. It is cool but you cant aim that well. Now, if BF2 added a free look option, as in lookin in a direction other than you are facing, TrackIR could work. I did manage to find on place trackIR works. You can map a button through the trackIR software to turn it on and off. So I mapped an trackIR on/off button to my joystick. I then turned on the mouse emulation. Now when ever I jump in a helio or plane I grab my joystick and ckick on my trakIR and fly. Now, when I hit mouse look button I can look around the cockpit with my trackIR. The only annoying thing is that I have to turn off my TrackIr (hit a button on the keyboard) when I bail out, otherwise my head movements will still control my mouse. It is actually pretty handy to look around while flying. However, don't buy a trackIR for that. If you play lots of racing sims and flight sims I highly recommend it. Oh and the comment about turning to the side with your eyes looking forward. It really isnt as unatural as you think. When you exagerate it and crank your neck 90 degrees and look out the corner of your eyes, yes it feels funny. But the head movements can be amazingly fine tuned and it ends up feeling perfect. As any new hardware it takes a little getting used to but you will love it.

This is still a technology that is in it's infantcy.
If it were to be coupled with a good Head Mounted Display, I could see it becoming something ultra cool, tho.

If any of you guys with this TrackIR thing have some extra bucks to toss at setting up the ultimate game display, check this out: http://www.i-glassesstore.com/iglassespc-3d.html

Fit that TrackIR onto a set of those glasses and... well... *drool*.
I'm really suprised that these companies haven't gotten together to produce a complete product!

We tried to get this to be featured in Battlefield 2, we even helped the guys who make it (who are great) but to no avail.

Rico... if you've got communications lines with the makers of TrackIR, could ya ask 'em if they have any plans to work with a full HMD?

The way I'm seeing it, they've got exactly half of a finished product there. The other half being the display. Io has got their glasses working up to 800X600 which would work fine for most games. They don't track, tho.

Bring these technologies together and we'd have our first practical look at "virtual Reality" for the home user.

Guys TrackIR is really only for flight sims. Especially for combat sim pilots like myself. Going to get TrackIR 4 with my christmas money, TrackIR3 made my dogfighting skills in LOMAC and IL2 go up ten fold.
