    Patching Failed

Upon attempt to install BF V1.12.xxx update, about 4 minutes after waiting for patch to update I am prompted with a dialog box stating: "PATCHING FAILED."

Click ok and nothing. Now BF2 is useless won't run, after start up it just comes back to desktop. I have reinstalled 4 times and same problem. Tried my friends CD version ( I have DVD) and still same problem.

I am running Server 2k3 and prior to this update, v1.12.00 things worked.

Any suggestions or do I wait for EA to fix their shiz?

CandyUSMC, as I said in the other thread you don't have a choice. You must install 1.12 as you had to install 1.03

m.olennick, firstly there may be a small risk that the new patch doesn't work on Server 2k3 as it isn't supported by BF2, even if you managed to get BF2 to work before.

Can you see if you have a PATCH.ERR file in /program files/EA Games/BF2/ and post it here (it's generated after patching with 1.12)

          "Patching failed"

Have you both verified that you have about 3.5Gb free space on C: ?

Also, as with patch 1.03, make sure that your anti-virus is turned off while patching.

The problem is that the patch decompresses and creates a 500mb patch.rtp file. When the patching begins this file is checked to make sure that it's 10% ok and if not you get the patching failed error. Sometimes due to an anti-virus the md5 hash check on this file will fail leading to the error.

Also as with 1.03, havinf memory wirh faults that don't normally show up while using the PC can lead to this error.

To answer some of the questions brought up in this thread,

1: I do have the harddisk space required plus more.

2: I have a couple memory faults but ungh, I don't want to buy some RDRam.

3: Here is what I find when I open PATCH.ERR

I do hope this will help you..

                    Start->Run->Regedit->Hkey_Local_machine->Software->Electronic Arts-> EA Games -> Battlefield 2
Then look at the value of installdir.. If you got daemon tools, it might be set to one of those phantomdrives, so change it too your battlefield 2 folder...

m.olennick, did you check for an anti-virus?

With the 1.03 patch bad RAm led to unmodified errors. memtest found tham and showed which RAM module had them. Usually by taking out the 'bad' one it was possible to install the patch.
