BF2 Patch 1.12 Install error, not again?

HI all, hey awhile back I picked up on someone having a similar problem with the 1.03 patch, not installing due to "to little space" on the drive where it needed 2400MB and to which this user was instructed to redirect their \temp directory where the patch files decompress to another larger drive. I did that back then and now it works up until this new 1.12 patch. Now this new patch gives the same error but the drive I have the \Temp dir resides upon a drive that has plenty of space and it still gives the error that I need 3000MB. Unless it's looking at a different temp dir then I'm mistaken and need to know. TIA,

i am having the exact same problem, how do you know what drive its looking at? and all my drives have more than what its asking for.

Yeah I'm getting the same thing even though my BF2 is located on a seperate drive other than my root and not only that my root has 3 Gigs free of space...

my root hd has 3 gigs free jsut as yours , and the hd where bf2 is installed has 30 gigs free it just wont let me install it

Bummer, I was hoping they'd fix this this time. Last time it was a bear to get 2.4 GB free on my C: drive. Don't know how I'm going to manage 3GB .

Why the hell do they need 3 gigs on a drive that has nothing to do with the game. Its not gonna use my C drive anyway. WHY WHY. Godamn EA/DICE
And oh yea there is no way i can free 3 gigs either... Guess we're all screwd.
does anyone has ideas on how to fix this.

I have some Ideas, but I'm not sure what and where the patch is getting it's info from. There has to be a way to trick it into thinking it's the same exact drive that BF2 is installed on instead of the root without converting your harddisk to dynamic (Which would work in theory but cause me alot of head aches)

I don't understand why EA did such a thing many people these days run their machines' OS on seperate logical / drives due to the security benefits of doing so. I mean even Microsoft reccomends it on their Server OS.

I had 2.8 free on c: and this worked.
1:Turn of system restore.
2 Turn of Virtual memory - Reboot + rember your settings
3:Install patch.
4 Turn back on system restore / Virtual memory - Reboot
5:All done

Smiley_ie came up with this and i tried it and it worked, now i can play some more bf2 , thanks hope it helps

Ok guys, I fixed it and here's what I did; normally I've only given my /Windows install drive exactly what it should need but apparently I needed even more with this $#^&%^$# patch but I previously had 2.4G free and even moving my temp dir to my programs partition which is at the end of my RAID setup with 20+Gs on it, I increased it's size (after a complete OS and repartiton install uh hum EA :evil: ) from 6G to 8G and that did the trick. No big deal it's just that I tend to keep my games near the beginning of the drive and windows & programs partitions nearer the end without taking up unnecessary space so as to allow more near the front for games. Anyhow, understandably it sux to have to reinstall, though at times it's perfectly fine and healthy to do so due to bloat that accumulates, I do hope that this helps some of you experiencing this problem, best of luck

Well this is fun...
I have 3 gig free on my C: (ran off to clear it up after seeing this thread), but it's still telling me that I need atleast 3 gigs free.

Hi there Wargimp, yes I do feel your pain, unfortunately you will need to add a bit more of a buffer as I've found out the hard way but an extra gig should suffice, hope you get it sorted bud

Probably would have worked for me too if I had my virtual memory (pagefile.sys) on C: but mine happens to have it's own partition on a seperate drive. But that's just me .... if you happen to have your virtual memory on the C: drive this IS the easiest way to gain space.
