help with motherboard installation

i have a av8-e se motherboard im having a problem with the main atx power link to the motherboard

the connector is different to any i have seen it has 20 pins and then a small 4 pin connector which are wired together as they leave the psu but seperate once they reach the pins

my motherboard has a 24 pin slot

the small 4 pin connector looks identical to the one i already plugged in close to the rear external ports should i use the 4 extra pins or not ?

The 20 pin just goes in the 24 pin and the 4 pin goes in a 4 pin.

Take a look in the manual but most motherbaord that have the 24 pin should work with the 20 pin.

Manual should also explain in which end of the 24 pin the 20 pin should be placed, but I doubt that it can be placed so it fries you mobo, but take a look still.

The 20-pin and 4-pin fasten together, as shown in the pic, and plug into the mobo.

If both mobo and atx have 24 there should be no problem.

As I read your manual you should connect both the 20+4 and the 4 pin. Take a look here:

When I read yopur initil post I though you just had a 20 pin atx and a 4 pin atx, that is what I have on mine, and the 20 pins fits in the 24, and I have no extra 4 pin to connect into the 24 pin, only the seperate 4 pin that goes in a different place than the 20 pin. Hope I didn't confuse you.

i have an extra 4 pin too plugs in close to cpu fan

should get my rig up and running tommorow

as said before, you need to fasten the 4pin to the 20pin , then you have a 24pin wich is for your 24 pin motherboard.

The other 4 pin (normaly yelow and black wires on it) fits in the 4pin near the fan connector in your case, this is just an extra powerline for your motherboard. you need to plug in that one to because otherwise the system will not start!!
