I dont know a damn thing about this so maybe somebody else can help me out. I bought a new computer out of desperation. Its a gateway (I know, save your anger ). Anyway it sucks. It can't run bf2, and we all know that whether a computer can run bf2 or not is the measure of greatness. So anyway, here are my specs.

CPU:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 2189 MHz
Graphics Chipset:
ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series
Memory:
1136 MB
OS:
Microsoft Windows XP


I got ****ed off and ran a diagnostic on alienware website where it compared mine to the aurora alx (God's gift to gamers) and here are its specs.

CPU:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 2600 MHz
Graphics Chipset:
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT
Memory:
1024 MB
OS:
Microsoft Windows XP







Ok so I have more ram and the same operating system. My cpu is 2189 and the alx is 2600 (not big gap in numbers but does it make a big dif ) Other than that, my graphics chipset is homosexual. So What do I need to change. And please, if you're a nerd and you know it, keep it to yourself dont give me big words about taking apart my pc and rerouting the internal wtf ever . Just tell me how to make my computer play bf2....

Everything seems to be ok apart from the Graphics card.
What kind of budget do you have?

If simply fixing my graphics card would make life better, then I dont think money is a problem. What card or cards would you recommend to fix my prob? Anything under $400 though if I had to name a price. "Money cant buy happines, but a pc that runs bf2 smoothly can "

ok rule number one never try to compare anougher machine with each other as every pc is different in one way of enougher.

and rule number 2 is ALIENWARE SUCK there pcs are over priced and take ages to order them to your door.

ok it seems to me you want a old machine to play BF2 (as Gateway have only started trading again in the Uk i dont know to much about them). This in theroy is easy to do but as we all know its harder to put it into practice.

Luckily all i think you need to do is put a good graphics card in and ram and it should be good to go.

So heres my recommendations:

6600GT

This should cost you no little over £200 and will play Bf2 so it looks good.

I did some research on the GeForce 6600 GT after you mentioned it and it seems to be a pretty good graphics card. I think Ill go with that but one review I read about it mentioned that they had to buy a "Y adapter" and something about power supply. I tried to find out more about this but as of yet have been unsuccessful. Im not exactly Bill Gates but I was under the impression that graphics cards just plug in and then life is good. I really dont want to have to mess with "y adapters" and "power supply".:evil: Any idea what they were talking about?

well this graphics card i sudgested looks like it is simple to install just plug it in, install the drivers.

BUT It may require a power plug from inside your machine if it does they will include the neceseary cable to plug it in with.

Before you pop in your card make sure all the drivers from your older card are off.

I'm assuming all I would have to do is Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs> and then just remove all the ATI items right? Would Control Panel>System Properties>Hardware>Device Manager> and then right-clicking on the card under display adapters and choosing uninstall be the same thing? Thanks guys for the help. I was afraid somebody would get on here and post a reply on rocket science 101 and tell me how to build a space station .

lol i could confuse you with alot of "jargon" but i was once not knowing how a pc works so i like to help people and try and keep it as simple as possible.

first create a restore point and take out everything with ati on it in the add/removes section.

then take the old card out, although i think this card is onboard so you might just have to slot the new card into a AGP slot (genreally looks like a brown slot below your processor)
