I've been pinging at between 30 and 85, but every now and again my pings have skyrocketed up towards 1000, most annoying.Comment

Could someone please explain Ping and Lag. I play on TG's server in the US, and I live in Israel. I play very well there, with a ping of about 200. How can that work, if "playable" pings are about 60-90?Comment

Ping is the time in takes in milliseconds for a packet to go to an IP address and back. For example, a ping of 60 means it took 60 milliseconds (.06 seconds) for a packet to go to the address and back. Ping is calculated as an average of 4 packets sent in 4 seconds, I believe.
Lag is when you experience gaps in the sent and received packets. It's like watching a TV show, the switching to another station and back at intermittent times. You miss out on some frames and action, usually seen best when something is in a position you didn't anticipate based on its previous path of motion, or worse, when something didn't connect based on the same calculation. The best examples are when you see a guy running, then he "blips" to a spot 10 feet in front of him. You missed a couple frames of his motion due to lag. Your connection lagged behind the server's action.Comment
